Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5:00, drove over to the Pentagon and walked to transition. Ate a bagel, Bananna and and a bar while waiting for Jen to hit the water.
Event warmup:

None really, was just doing the bike

Comments:

Kind of dissapointed in my overall time. I haven't ever done a relay before and wasn't used to going all out on the bike. With 5 miles left I really stepped on it because I realized I had so much left in the tank.

I started off pretty strong which got my heart rate up there so I was worried that I went out too fast.

Passed a ton of people out there on the course. The switchback turns were pretty annoying, too many people that couldn't handle their bike, which made making the turns at any speed nearly impossible.

Course was really flat, I think I stayed in aerobars just about the entire time. Some decent bumps out there on the road, had to dodge alot of water bottles and spare tubes.
What would you do differently?:

Ride harder the entire time. I was so paranoid about wiping my self out early that I held back too much.
Transition 2
  • 01m 2s
Comments:

Long run through transition to get back to the racks.
Run
  • 47m 58s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 43s  min/mile
Post race
Warm down:

Walked to the finish line with my wife and jen to wait for Adam and her teams runner to finish.

Event comments:

Pretty good race, there were some things they could do differently but fun overall. Had a great time doing this relay with Jen and Adam.

Anthem played by guy on electric violin was pretty interesting, then he jumped in the water for the swim.

Cool pictures!

The turnarounds were scary.  I went incredibly slow and as far to the right as I could to stay out of the way of those who knew what they were doing.  I still saw a woman wipe out in front of me.

Great job on the bike!!  I think you did really well.  But, this just means you can be faster next year.

I had a blast doing the relay with you and Adam.  I am serious about doing it again if you two are up for it.
