Hello Everyone,

Sorry for the delay - but my wt for Wed was 226.4# which was down from whatever the last time was.  I'll take it!  Next goal is to pass my FNP boards this coming Wed and lose 5 pounds by our next two week wt in.  Goal in two weeks 221#.

Great job everyone.

Jared

Hey, I'm new around here, and I realize that I'm probably asking questions answered long ago (or far away or something).  So, can I just jump in to join? And is weigh-in here on Monday or Wednesday?

I've been rooting around this particular challenge but I can't find the answer.  I'm probably just not looking far enough.

So if it's OK to join in here, I guess I will do that introduction to me thingy:   I started training for triathlons this summer--at the end of June.  I did my first sprint tri at the end of September in Maine (the Mainiac--dang was that water cold, btw).  My times were abysmal, but hey, I finished.  I'm looking to make my way up the tri ladder to the Olympic distance next.

I started losing weight March, and have lost just about 20 lbs to date.  It seems that now that I am older the weight loss is super slow (I'm 47).  I've been stuck at 160 for a while, although the weight is redistributing, or the fat is being replaced with muscle or something, because clothes fit differently.  (I bought my wetsuit for "me" at 168, which was on the border between two sizes, so now the wetsuit feels a little too big around the middle!)

Even though I am putting in more time training (including 2x wk strength) I'm having some difficulty getting my volume up over the weeks.  My gains have been steady but super slow. Am I not pushing myself hard enough?

I'm content with getting better--going farther and faster--over the long haul; I don't mind taking my time and doing baby steps.  But, I am not really losing any more weight, which I am having a more difficult time being patient about.  I'm eating a healthy diet, and I'm careful about the calories.  Still, I'm S-T-U-C-K at this weight (and I weigh myself about once a week, rather than frequently).

Any ideas for an aging body's weight loss?  Patience?  Or?

Thanks, all!

Lisa

P.S.  Now that I've written all that, I guess I hope it's OK for me to join up here!

Jump right on in!  You can report your loss whenever you like, I think most people post on Wednesdays.

Weight loss does happen at a slower pace when you are older.  One reason is your body is starting to lose muscle but good thing you are doing strength training.

I'm not an expert at all but!

How is your food looking?

One of the key components to losing weight is the amount of calories you are eating.  Of course it is a delicate balance because you need food to fuel your workouts.  So part of it is eating the right foods to help your workouts but making sure you are in a calorie range that will help you lose fat.

This past week I almost fell off the weight loss wagon.  With my wife gone on a four day work-related trip, I became Mr. Mom.  I ended up failing to count calories all week & I missed a couple of workouts.  Although I didn't actually gain any weight, I'm feeling bloated & crappy right now from eating an unhealthy diet.  I was teetering on the verge of a total collapse of my program.

But then tonight I found myself logged in to BT looking over everyone's posts.  Reading everyone's words of encouragement, practical advice, and accounts of personal struggles left me with a renewed determination not to relapse back into the Burger King lifestyle.

So even though it was already dark, I immediately went out and walked around the neighborhood.  And when I got home I did my strength training workout and stretched afterwards.  Tomorrow morning I'll be up bright and early logging miles on the local bike trail.

A hearty "Thanks" to everyone who takes the time to post in the forums.

John,

One thing I strongly believe is failure isn't falling down but staying down.  We can let things get out of control sometimes but as long as we stop it and get back back on track.

I had a bit of a meltdown myself today.  I went way overboard on nuts/raisins.  I went way over my calories but it could've been so much worse.

John, that is so cool about your walk under the beautiful night sky (ALL skies are inspiring to me!) And clearly you are right back on track. Sometimes taking a little "vacation" from our fitness lifestyle isn't such a bad thing. Most often the feeling it leaves us with makes us all the more anxious to get moving and eating right again!

I'm back in the saddle again! - Figuratively & literally!  I got up & biked 12 miles first thing this morning & have been counting calories today.  Thanks everyone for your support.  If not for the BT community, my diet & exercise program would likely have collapsed.  But instead I'm still in this race with a renewed sense of determination.

Sorry pigpen, been outta pocket a few days.  Yeah, I have notice that my face is a lot thinner and my clothes practically starting to hang off of me, but the dang scales aren't giving it up.  I have been through this before with weight training, so I know to go by the measuring tape, not the scales.  However, it is really aggravating because having arthritis in my knees it is crutical that I drop the weight.  That is why with my weight training I am upping the reps and keeping the weight moderate.... like four sets of 15.

Hang in there, the weight will come off..... I just tryo to flood my body with water and keep my sodium down so my body has no reason to want to retain any water.

Good luck.

Not a bad week.  My weight this morning is 204.  Training is going well.  No missed workouts, no missed meals, etc.  The weather is starting to get yucky here in Kansas City so I'll have to spend more time on the trainer and treadmill (BLECH!).  I'm still hoping to have enough time to break in my new saddle before I'm stuck inside.

My target for next week is 202.5

Good morning everyone!  I'm at 206.5 this morning.  Down from 209.5 two weeks ago.  My target for next week is 204.5.

Thanks!

Tim

timbarnby - 2008-09-24 11:38 AM

Howdy all!  I dropped to 209.5 this week. Down from 215 last Wednesday.  3 - 4 lbs of that was water weight.  I'm planning to drop to 206 by next Wednesday.  After that I'll be losing 2 lbs a week pretty regularly.

Well today was better than expected - 224.4# so I am down for the week - which isn't bad since I haven't worked out since Sat.  Goal for next week is 222#.  Good luck everyone and great job.

Down .5 from last week.  Now if I can keep the trend going.  I know today won't be a good eating day.  Office b-days are always yummy!

Funny story- I haven't weighed this week because I have been really busy at work and haven't taken the time to run by and weigh, since I was told you should weigh on the same scales every time.  Anyway, the other day I ran out of the house with a T-shirt and a pair of cargo shorts on, just running to the convenience store.  When I got back I decided to run to the mailbox and check the mail.  On my way back from the mailbox my shorts fell to my ankles....lol!  These same shorts I could barely get buttoned a month ago.  I guess next time I won't forget to throw a belt on, or take the cell phone out of my pocket so it doesn't weigh my shorts down.

The neighbors got a show!

Congrats on all the losses and keep up the hard work.  One more thing, I reached a PB this week, 2.5 miles with no walking....Wooo HOOO!

10/7     235 lbs

10/15   229 lbs

My co-workers mentioned today that my clothes were looking baggy on me!  I took that as a compliment!

Great job everyone - Clothes falling off / baggy ect!  I passed my Family Nurse Practitioner Boards this afternoon so I "cheated" and had a few beers and a bacon cheeseburger at Rudy's (a local Pub) to celebrate.  Tomorrow I plan on applying for a couple jobs and doing at least an hour on the trainer at a 90 cadence, then off to jack rabbit hunt with my daughters (they like the pelts). Hurtin' for certain!

I lost a couple of pounds, but forgot to post it. Sorry I have been so distant lately guys. I am in the process of trying to figure out what's wrong with my knee. I am pretty frustrated.

Good job, everyone.

after a week of feeble injured workouts I am up 3 pounds to 244. I think it is water though because I have NO appitite from pain meds and am not eating nearly as much as I was. If all goes well today will be my first day back in the pool.

I've been strength training with exercise bands for the past few weeks as part of my weight loss program.  Either: 1) my bands are getting stretched out and have lost some of their resistance, or 2) I'm getting stronger.  I think I'll go with the option number 2.

I introduced Trail Running into my program this week.  Yesterday's run gave me 2,200 feet of hill climbing.
