Small races are really cool. Did a 5K this morning at Gifford Pinchot State Park in south central PA. The race was the first to support the Furry Friends Network, and animal adoption network. I don't know what the total participant count was, but it was small and included a 2K walk for people and their 4-legged friends. Was a trail run so the runners had to share the road with the walkers and their dogs, which was intersting on this rather narrow trail.

But I love small races because for the first time I got to hear MY name mispronounced at the end...TWICE! I got first in my age group, third overall and a PB of 21:45!!. Granted, it was so small that the top finisher's time was 21:23, and I was the sole runner in my age group (40-49 Male), but I'll take it. My prize was a glass pitcher and dinner for two at a local establishment.

Congrats on your top finish!  I am also a animal/dog lover, so I would definitely participate in one of those events if they had one here, sounds like a great time!

Awesome! My next tri is going to be small...less than 150 triathletes! With my luck, they'll be the fastest d00ds in my county, though...

I can't wait tho. I was just commenting the other day how fun I think it's going to be!

Good Job!

I'm lucky enough to have two races near home...my favorite is only 2 blocks from my front door to the TA.

No kidding. Small races are wonderful. Increased chance of hardware aside, it seems the organizers are really happy to have everyone there and it seems that the friendliness factor is higher too.

small local races are the best...

- low cost

- no hotel

- no long drive

- no pick-up packet the day before

- no rack-bike-day-before-and-leave-it

- lots of people you know

- more beginners = growth for the sport

Scotto, you're SO on...those are great points

For every single tri i've done so far, i've driven minimum of 2 hours
