Total Time = 2h 49m 39s
Overall Rank = 1938/2175
Age Group = 45-50
Age Group Rank = 117/146
Pre-race routine:

Up and showered, coffee and tried to each a bar and gel. Diet pepsi and h2o to go. Friend picked me up and we did the rounds getting others. Groups of us doing the event. Milled around like a cow herd at venue...pee pod lines, chilly outside induced goosebumps!
Event warmup:

None... warmed up my jaw lots flappin' it with other peeps. Saw an ex coworker which was awesome!
Run
  • 2h 49m 39s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 12m 57s  min/mile
Comments:

We walk/ran - 4/1 and I would have preferred to run more. For me, walking was awful. It hurt my hips and strained my shins - unlike running. So sometimes I'd slow jog while they walked. Chatted waaaaay too much to really be beneficial for full out cardio but enjoyed the company and crowds. Had 2 pee stops...one entailed a wait. DH and son showed up and that gave me such a lift!
What would you do differently?:

run more, talk less...er but then would have to skip the group effort.
Post race
Warm down:

chilled out... got some grub, headed home.

Event comments:

Will likely do this one again! Who'd have thought a non-runner would ever want to do such a thing AGAIN?!? LOL

finishing a half marathon no longer qualifies you as a 'non-runner'...... nice job! But now you have to deal with the fact that you, are NOT, a 'non-runner'.   Glad you had a good time!  Congrats!

Nice job and I love the race photo.   You two look so happy!!!!

I think the secret to running faster is NOT showering before you leave for the race.  That way you don't feel so bad about sweating up a storm

Great job and glad you enjoyed yourself. Bonus: you look a hell of a lot better crossing the finish than I did at my last 1/2.

Great job in the first half marathon.....sounds like you had a lot of fun! That's the main thing, especially when you say you'll likely do it again! And I LOVE the finish line picture.....you should blow that one up!
