Subject: Using P2C with trainer. What type of skewer?

I been using an old hybrid bike with my trainer and the skewer that came with the trainer.  No problem.  Now I want to use my P2C with the trainer and the skewer does not fit properly in the wheels.  The edge hits the frame.

I am curious to what other people do.  Do they just use their regular skewer in the trainer?  Or is there a special skewer that I can buy that does not hit the frame on bikes like the P2C but is big enough to fit in the trainer clamps well?  Or is ther an adapter?

I believe I have the Travel Trac Century Fluid Trainer.

Thanks in advance for any help.  THis forum is incredible!

I found that the skewers that came with the P2C were too small and easily damaged by the trainer.

I tried the skewer that came with the trainer and it worked better but quickly discovered that there is not enough clearance between the deraileur hanger and the side of the frame to prevent scratches. (Luckily I checked it before riding it and just lightly scuffed the deraileur)

I have the Cycleops Magneto and just figured I would not be riding my P2C on the trainer. I know there are trainers that do work with the P2C but mine is obviously not one of them. (Unless someone has any ideas)

I just use my roadie on the trainer when I have to ride indoors

I am fortunate to have just bought a P2C but still have my old tri bike.  I just leave the old one on the trainer all the time now.

In the past, I just happened to have a skewer that fit my trainer (but it didn't come WITH the trainer), so I swapped it out when I wanted to use the trainer.

You may be able to go to a bike shop and find replacement skewer that works.  Could take some trial and error, though.

Just get a Tacx trainer skewer and be done with it, or call the company that makes your trainer. Seriously not worth it to risk the trainer letting go while you're riding and trashing your rear wheel and/or frame because you wanted to save $10-20 on a skewer.

Are you saying the Tacx trainer skewer will clear the frame on the P2C?  Are you using it with a P2C?   I have no problem buying a new skewer even if it is $40.  But I want to get one that clears the frame of the bike.  It seems most of the training skewers are bigger at the base and hit the bike frame.  So I was hoping to save some trial and error by finding a skewer with a smaller base.

Thanks a lot for the help.  Going to save me a lot of hassle.
