Subject: Sweating copious amounts on longer runs....need suggestions....and Zoot shoes?

I've been running about 8 miles or so for my longer runs.   But last week i stepped it up to 10 and 11 on Monday.   Tomorrow i am shooting for 12 and maybe 13 if i feel strong.

However, here is my issue....i sweat something ridiculous after about mile 10 and on.   I'm talking my legs are soaked through my shorts and my feet, socks, and shoes are drenched....literally.    I wear Asics running socks and they are soaked.   My Nike shoes are sloshing when i'm done.   I'd hate to see what happens over 12 or more miles (guess i'll find out tomorrow).

So i'm wondering if anyone else has a problem with this and has any type of solution.   I live in Florida, but the past week or two has been rather cool in the mornings and my runs are relatively comfortable and not hot.   I'd hate to see the sweat on very humid and hot days.   I'm hydrating good by carrying a fuel belt and drinking along the way.   But is there something i'm missing with the ridiculous amounts of sweat.

I'm also wondering about the Zoot running shoes.   I've read where they are "suppose" to drain excess sweat during longer runs and keep your feet dry.   Has anyone had alot of success with these shoes or is that more of a gimmick?   Are they comfortable and have good supports and not rub blisters on long runs?   Or they worth a look?  Any Zoot wearers out there.

Any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions?

Believe it or not I probably sweat more than you.    I too live in florida and it usually looks like I took a shower with my clothes on when I am done and I am sloshing in my shoes.  When its hot I can sweat a pound a mile.  You are probably continuously sweating its just that now that you are doing longer runs its accumulating more.  Keep up the hyfration. Do a sweat test to be sure you are taking in enough fluids and be sure to replace electrolytes too.   I dont' know anything much about the Zoot shoes sorry

I'm the same way, unfortunately...I come back with a damp shirt after a 30 minute walk in 65 degree weather at night!

I did have someone tell me that sweating profuse amounts can be an indicator of thyroid problems if you sweat like that other than just when you run.  Mine is just genetics...

I can't say I sweat that much but some things I did learn is wearing a visor helps keep a bunch of sweat from my head from draining down. The bill wicks it out nicely and with nothing covering your head it dosen't hold in more heat. Another idea might just be to make a long run that loops by the house and toweling off or changing out shirts or something.

Nothing to do, except enjoy your body's air conditioning.  You can't sweat less, unless you hydrate less, but becoming a heat casualty is not fun either.  I've been known to lose 7 pounds on a 23 mile bike ride, while draining my entire camelback (ok, it was Africa hot that day), and I lost 5 pounds in my sprint last Sunday, and it was 68 degrees and raining.  I feel your pain, but there's not a lot that can be done.

Your legs probably aren't sweating that much... at least mine don't. It's your head/torso sweat running down your legs after your shirt is saturated. So I'll I can advise is to swap shirts on long runs. I used to do 3 x 6 miles as a long run when I was mary training in the hot/humid summers here in MD. Changed shirt each time, chugged a gatorade, and was back out the door.

I too am a member of the Nasty Sweaty guy club. I sweat crazy amounts, I did a 10K in 65 degree weather 2 weeks ago and my shoes were sloshing at the 5 mile mark. I found that my shoes fill up quickly when I run with thin socks on, and after I shaved my legs it made it worse. If I wear a long sock, or something to catch the sweat helps otherwise just get used to running in wet shoes.

well i went out for a 12 miler early this morning and things went alot better.   it was pretty cool most of the run (low 60's).  when i got done i had little or minimal sweat.  i'm sure the cooler temps played a huge roll in this.

Good thing is the more you sweat relative to you means that your body has adapted and you are fitter than before.

My sweat rate has gone up 2.5 times in 2 years.

I live about 80 miles south of you, and Im the same way.

I run in the afternoon mainly so I have gotten used to running in the heat, 94 degree, 75%humdity, direct sun, nice.

My wife asks me "did you go swimming" after i return to the house from my runs.

A broken record here, do a sweat test.

I stash fluids and salt tablets along my route to make sure I dont pop.

Great.  I'm sweating so much in my first year that'll I'll look like the Bellagio fountains in a couple of years.
