Subject: RE: I took out the trainer :-(Thanks I'll take you up on that. How far ahead should I call you? I've always wanted to ride Ventoux. In 1995 2 old friends and I rode in the Alps. Even saw a few of days of the tour (Alp Duez, La Plane & Paris). We rented a small RV and drove to the bottom of mountain passes. We then spent the day going up and over some of the biggest & most famous. Saw Indurain win his last Tour, watch Pantani race up the Alp and saw a young pre-cancer Armstrong racing with the big boys. We were going to follow them to the Pyrenees, but decided to ride in the southern alps and then climb Ventoux. Unfortunately I blew out my Achilles tendons and spent the day riding 100 miles around it while my 2 mountain goat friends climbed it (one lived in Durango and weighed 155lbs and the other lived in Vail and weighed 148lbs - I was not at my best at 182lbs and living at sea level) I've always wanted to have a second chance at the climb. |
