Subject: RE: What % MHR for marathonmbmoran2 - 2008-10-15 12:28 PM Any thoughts on marathon pace as it relates to Lactate Threshold Pace? I just did the LT field test this morning and averaged 6:59/mi over 30 minutes. Assuming that is my LT and is equivalent to 10k-15k race pace, McMillan has me at a 3:17-3:23 marathon... Now for me to BQ, I'd need a 3:15:59. So, of course I'm going to ignore the tables, and probably blow up. But, that's why we race, right? | | min/mi | mph | % of LT Speed | | LT Pace | 6.98 | 8.59 | | | 3:25 M | 7.82 | 7.67 | 89.3% | | 3:20 M | 7.63 | 7.86 | 91.5% | | 3:15 M | 7.44 | 8.06 | 93.8% |
Okay. I don't know anything about LT and HR and whatever. But I do know that using McMillan as a guideline for predicting marathon times based on shorter races is very faulty thinking--especially if you are lower mileage marathoner. If you want my two cents I don't think you are ready for 3:15. Absolutely I could be wrong and hope I am wrong. I glanced at your logs and your race pr's and we are very close running wise but I run more--I concede though that you are a few seconds faster. However, I have been at this speed going on almost 2 years and have yet to break 3:30 in my 4 marathon attempts to do so. Closest I have come is 3:37 and 3:38. I think you should stick to your plan to go out for the 3:25 and adjust from there. Certainly you have the capability to run sub 3:15 I am just not so sure all the pieces are quite ready to come together for that to happen by Nov 1. |
