Too bad this challenge hasn't started yet. To avoid the dreadmill I ran 7k outside in freezing rainy 27mph winds!! Bring it on!

Bill, thanks for the spreadsheet. Are we doing goals or just tracking what we get done? Might be nice to have the monthly column do the totals for us. If you want, I can muck around with it and see if you like the changes, or we can go simple and easy and leave it as is!

Okay, I mucked around with it. Have I mentioned I am an Excel junkie? It's an addiction. I start playing, I can't stop. Anywho, I added monthly totals, cumulative totals, and a column for standings for every month. Lemme know if the colors are annoying (or just get rid of/change them). I wasn't sure if they'd help people see across the rows.

I think we should all chip and get whomever wins this challenge a windproof fleece or something! There's gonna be some hardcore training action going on, I think. Then again, anyone who can tough it out long enough to win probably has more winter gear than they'll ever need...

Yeah, I "practiced" in about 32 and snow drifting down on Thursday, but then Friday it was 52 and bright sunshine! Gotta love fall!

I wanted to point out that I added a new sheet to the spreadsheet with the multipliers on it. If you go to the bottom of the screen one says standings and one says something about the scoring (don't remember what i called it). That way we don't have to try to remember.

Oh hey, are we counting non-tri stuff in the scoring? I hike, too, but it would seem like the minutes would give me super high points (since I'm often out for 8-10 hours...)

Thanks for all the work on the spreadsheets.  I'm looking out the window and thinking "crap no crappy weather"...  I don't think RI will compete with Buffalo, MT & NH but it will be fun to run along with you all.  We do freezing rain well here but that's about it.  If only I hadn't moved from St Paul-NOT!

Hope you all enjoy a weekend of good weather before the challenge starts on Monday.

Kathy

Are we logging all outdoors workouts or only ones that are done when the weather meets one of the modifiers?

so just to confirm, if you go for a run and it isnt rainy, warm, no wind, then you get zero points?

Hmm, good question. Or do you just get the minutes, with no multiplier?

How I understood it from last year - if you don't have a temperature below 35 degrees then it does not count as crappy weather.

This is our challenge so if you think we should change that then we can discuss it.  I tend to lean toward agreeing that if it is not below 35 degrees then no big deal.  I have enough of it coming soon enough

Let me know what you think!

If you look at the calculation if you don't have any of the parameters the multiplier is zero so the workout wouldn't count, 1 hr x 0=0.  But it also means that if it is raining then it would count for something despite the temperature.  So I guess the question is does it have to be cold to be crappy? Or does cold and rain just give you more crappy points?

We have lows in the 20's and chance of snow by the end of the week, so the crappy weather will be coming soon enough.

I researched last years and if it was not 35 or lower you don't score any points.  I say we go with that formula for this year.  We all know it is coming, sooner or later, and will have to load up the points once the cold hits.

I get 65 all week (commuting weather) so I am not complaining at all.

Sounds like a plan

Am I doing this right??     33 degree temp- .5 points

                                        wind 8mph-        1.o points

                                         bike ride-            1.0 points

                                          length of ride-    124 minutes

                                          2.5 x 124= 310 points

Correct? I figure I must get some good points for freezing my toes off!

Could be awhile before I get any crappy weather points. We're in Pasco, WA for awhile. It's raining and windy, but the temp is 55

Great job on the ride aquagirl!
