Pre-race routine:

Up early, ate some chocolate-chip pancakes with peanutbutter and syrup. Froze my a$$ off while I loaded the car for my 1.5 hour drive to the race start.
Event warmup:

Jogged around the start area with a few pick ups. Mostly just stayed in the warm car...it was COLD!
Run
  • 21m 19s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 51s  min/mile
Comments:

Best I have ever felt while running! I kept having to reel myself back in when I would pick up the pace. I didnt want to give it all up in the first 5k.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 00m 50s
Comments:

Fumbled while putting the helmet on...couldnt get the wind flaps over my big ears..WTF!!

This transition cost me at least one place in my AG!

What would you do differently?:

Maybe try different helmet options in shorter races.
Bike
  • 50m 35s
  • 18 miles
  • 21.35 mile/hr
Comments:

Dropped my fricken Garmin right after I started. I did it while I was securing one of my velcro straps on my shoe. I had to turn around, stop, get off the bike and pick it up.

Once up to speed I started picking off the fast runners. Great ride!
What would you do differently?:

Garmin is going to be pre-mounted on the bike and not on my wrist for the run.

Transition 2
  • 00m 30s
Comments:

Went perfect...after the first one I was not going to mess this one up!!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 23m 8s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

I just ran as fast as my legs would let me. They felt tired but still had some life in them.
What would you do differently?:

Wear different shoes...I could feel every little pebble in my Zoots. Chose them for the fast transition. Probably didnt slow me down in the run though...getting some quick laces for my other shoes for next time.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched a little, jogged a little, and walked around a lot.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just some technical rookie mistakes. Not used to being within seconds of top three. Need to remember that all of these little mistakes together equal a lot of time!

Event comments:

This race was an ego booster for me. My training over the last 5 weeks has paid off. I am running faster and riding much more eficient than when I started training at the begining of the year.
