Well, tomorrow morning I have surgery on my thumb to reattach the ligament. Looks like I will be doing a run focus for the next month - 6 weeks. Somehow I hope to be able to retain some level of fitness during this time. Any suggestions on how to try to keep some fitness & then get back in shape after the thumb is recovered?

What are the limitations you have post surgery?

You could ride a trainer I would think.

Now is not a bad time to take some down time and allow your body to recover from the season depending on the races and distances you did this year.

Looks like you may have answered your own question...  Good luck and get better!

x2 on the trainer. You should be able to ride in aero without stressing the thumb.

What's wrong with using the run focus to stay in shape? I'm missing what you are missing...

I suspect you would want an activity where you would not have any jarring of your hand and would not even want to use your hand for balance. I use an elliptical trainer and don't need to balance with my hand.  I would think you would want to keep your hand elevated to minimize swelling, which you could do on an elliptical trainer or stair climber.  I'd talk to your doctor about what you need to do to keep you incision dry.
