Likewise. Sorry it didn't work out. Next time we'll be more organized.

I was at the expo at 2:00 but I did not manage to run into anyone except Freshjive. However I did have an entertaining conversation with Brad in the morning

I left my house at about 9:30 Friday morning and started driving to Benton Harbor. After about 10 minutes I remembered to turn my wife's cell phone on and put it on the seat beside me. A few minutes later the phone starts making an odd musical tone and I pick it up to find that it is dialing. Not knowing who it was dialing I touched "end call" and put it back on the seat. A couple of minutes later Brad calls. Apparently the phone had been dialing his number and he recognized my phone number from the contact list that he had circulated. This was pretty strange as I don't know Brad and I have never called him. I have no idea how the phone started dialing his number, although it may have something to do with the text message that he sent out the night before. Anyway, the phone tried dialing someone again a few times over the weekend, so if that was your number again Brad I hope I wasn't ruining your weekend

I got one more on Friday. It rang once then stopped. Have no idea how that happened. No problem though!

GRB1 - 2009-08-02 11:48 PM I never got the chance to meet up with anyone, glad to hear everyone finished and did so safely.  I "enjoyed" the experience, but my feet limited my run.  See my race report for details:  http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=172862

In the end though I shouldn't complain.  I love this distance and I thought that the volunteers and crowd support was amazing!

I agree!! The volunteers were amazing and everyone out on the course was GREAT!!!  I talked to some really nice people out on the run - and had a couple good laughs.  The "pink" girls were TOO funny!!  They made me smile every time around! *giggling*

Did anyone see a girl riding on the back of a bright green moped? That was my wife. She was cheering at everyone who went by. The crowds definatly helped the run!

ericcooper - 2009-08-03 5:24 AM So I saw the preliminary results from the timing company and I'm a bit confused.  They talked a lot about us having around 2500 participants, yet this says that only 1661 finishers.  I can't imagine that 839 people dropped.  I can't wait for all of the official stats to see what happened there.

I was wondering about that as well... I had thought they capped it at 1800 and then everyone was talking about 2500 entries?  Interesting.

I recall seeing numbers above 2000.

Lookit how many relay entries there were. 2 or 3 people per team probably explains most of the difference. DNS should have been under 100 and less than 2x that for DNF (injury, cutoffs), from past races

I just heard this on the news today.  Apparently, we were lucky with the swim conditions early in the morning.

Great job out there!  I am going to have to train a little harder and get those final 2 seconds on you next year  I do remember seeing you wife out there.  You might have seen my family and friends. They were all wearing bright green T-Shirts that said Team Greg.  My wife surprised me as she had them made without me knowing about it.  It made it easy for me to spot them during my transitions.

As with all above - wind took my hopes of under 6 away - but for my first - really enjoyed it!

I took the whole family to Michigan - we decided to hit the beaches today - they hit back! Glad this wasn't what we faced Saturday. (This photo was taken at the end of the lighthouse pier around 11am this morning!)
