I broke off one of my bar end shifters the other day and am wondering what the best stuff is to repair it-super glue, epoxy, other?

Its right below where the grey tip becomes shiny metal on dura-ace shifters.

Thanks!!

My vote is other - cash.  Replace it.

Don't waste your time.  Super glue and/or epoxy will not handle the forces applied to a bar end shifter and if it did work, I suspect you'd make it about 15 minutes before it eventually let go.  Additionally, its a white-metal casting, so there's no way to weld it - bite the bullet and either find a used/new set.

Cash - you need a new one.  Even getting parts is probably more expensive than a new set.

Call/email Shimano customer service. Tell them what a fan you are of their product and the circumstances behind their product failing. You might just get a new one free of charge.

Contrary to popular belief, customer service isn't dead. I recently contacted the 5.11 company to inquire how I could purchase a new set of temples for a pair of sunglasses I own. They told to simply email my address and they would send me a new set of "frames." 1 week later the Big Brown Truck left me a package on my doorstep containing a brand new pair of sunglasses and an accessory package. I was prepared to spend half the price of the glasses to get replacement temples but got pretty lucky I guess. It's worth a try, they are Dura Ace for goodness sake!

HIjack but 5.11 has outstanding customer services also blackhawk industries. but as far as your shifter i agree you need to replace it ASAP. even if the glue held you would always be worrying about it.

I know the Dura Ace STI shifter/brake levers for road bars have a 3 year warrantee. I'd bet the bar ends might as well?

BTW: Be careful installing them. If you don't line the parts up perfectly or drop the innards, you can bugger the works rather easily.

Thanks for the replies-I will call Shimano....I just bought the shifters this past April, so having to replace them with a new set will bite. Hopefully they can help, or at least sell me just the part I need....otherwise I guess I will buy a new set and have lots of extra parts

Luckily, it is the one for the front derailer and I have many many routes where I stay on the large ring for the duration.
