Expert 1074 Madison, MS | Subject: RE: IMFL & recovery And I am doing great... Took the week after entirely off. We stayed in PCB and I just ate, slept, lounged on the beach, ate again, slept some more...you get the picture. We got back Friday, and I didn't do anything until Sunday when I took pooch for a 2-mile walk. I've been doing some light stretching. Yesterday, I got on the bike for 30 minutes. Easy, easy effort. Tonight I'll run for 30 minutes at an easy, easy effort. Also, yoga class. I'm just phasing back into working out and being patient. I have not gotten a cold (knock wood). I think coming back to too much too soon probably puts the immune system over the edge when you haven't adequately recovered from your Ironman day. Patience, people. Patience. |

Extreme Veteran 378 Really South | Subject: RE: IMFL & recovery Bluejack - 2008-11-12 7:35 AM Yah. Getting depressed just like last time (IMAZ 2007). My time goal was met for IMFL but I was upset with how I felt on the run so I'm already Gung-Ho to get back on the training kick. I was thinking about some weights and yoga. Light spinning/walking. I'm still getting tired very early in the evening as well. Besides toenails growing back, my musculoskel system feels great. Just like last time I'm already planning races withoin two-three days after an IM. Crazy. Stay well people! Oh yeah....but race searching this week and planning out my '09 race schedule. No IMs on the schedule but maybe 1-2 half IMs. |

Master 2468 Muskego, Wisconsin | Subject: RE: IMFL & recovery I'm getting the IM blues too. I had to pack all my tri stuff along with everything else for our move to Japan. The blues are setting in because we are set to take such a beating on the sale of our house and cars that it's going to make a trip from Okinawa to one of the nearby IM's almost impossible in 09, due to the gigantic debt we'll be packing along with us. Sweet. |

Sweet. Sounds like a tough move with 3 little kids...then all that other stuff as well. Did you get a choice to move? I hope everything goes smoother than you expect. Pretty cool with all you have going on you did IMFL! It is tough to come down from that magical place of an IM.

Giver 18427 | Subject: RE: IMFL & recovery The day after IMFL '06 I was in a big ol' funk, and I was crazy sore...couldn't sleep that night because of it. And it didn't get much better for about a week. Contrast it with this year: I haven't been depressed at all, and the soreness was gone 2 days past. 5 days after I ran 4 miles. Seven days after I did 7 miles and another 4 yesterday with no issues at all. I'm gonna do about 14 on Friday, and if that goes well, run the ATL Marathon just 26 days post-IM. After IMFL '06 I had several friends run a Turkey 10 miler w/i the same month and then run a marathon that December. I, on the other hand, could barely get my body to cooperate to run 3 miles. This time around I feel okay on my runs (only 3 milers) except for my knees and I have ridden three times with one of those being a hilly 30 miler this morning. |

Extreme Veteran 481 The Land of Mickey-Orlando | Subject: RE: IMFL & recovery I haven't posted much on the site since the race. I HATE being someone that brings everyone down and when you DNF an Ironman..people don't know what to say or how to treat you. I tell them it gives me an opportunity to learn from mistakes and get it right the second time around! I took a week off and went on vacation. By the time I got back, my trainer already had my 2009 year laid out. For now, its all about more weight loss (like losing 200lbs wasn't enough..ive got 40 more to go) ...training for Olympic distance and Marathons until April, then we begin again with Ironman focused training. Again..I hope you all know how incredibly excited I was to be at the finish line to cheer you on (if you came in around 14:30 to 17:00 hours) and I look forward to being in LOTS of pain in about 12 months HIGHFIVES TO ALL |

Keep posting, update your blog here on BT and your on line one. We all want to watch your progress this next year. I missed meeting you at IMFL but I did see you and cheer for you. You are our hero today and everyday! Look at all you have accomplished...amazing!

Veteran 691 | Subject: RE: IMFL & recovery Hi All, I sure do miss you! Never a dull moment in my household. My husband had surgery today. Whew. I'm going to PT to get this back thing in better working order. I rode the mtb last weekend and swam and have been going to the gym to do some things like weights-it all seems so foreign. Mostly, I'm working on my emotional state-I still have dreams/nightmares nightly about the race. So darn close........ |

Member 64 Virginia Beach, VA | Subject: RE: IMFL & recovery Its been two weeks since IMFL and I haven't done a damn thing except sleep in every morning, eat, drink, go out with the girls, have fun, stay up late... all the things I hadn't done the past 6 months. We all worked our butts off for a very long time. Take a little time off, get a little out of shape, and enjoy yourself! We deserve it!

Veteran 201 | Subject: RE: IMFL & recovery Speaking from experience, last yr after ironman I felt like I needed to start training for the upcoming season. I don't think I took a full week off from my race to the start of base training. The outcome...burnout. By April after our annual training camp, I was mentally done. Look at my May logs, very little training. In the end, it hurt my 2008 season. Now i'm well rested, and training harder than last year. So a few weeks of rest will not hurt anyone! |

Extreme Veteran 378 Really South | Subject: RE: IMFL & recovery Tru dat! I now have my post Ironman cold and feel really rundown. I run yesterday and my right knee and foot still hurt pretty bad. I can hear the elliptical machine calling my name. Mentally I am ready to start doing something and I am antsy to move, move, move........but my knee and foot are saying something totally different. |

Master 2468 Muskego, Wisconsin | Subject: RE: IMFL & recovery I wanted to wait until my body couldn't stand it anymore before I started working out and i'm there now. I can't wait until all our stuff is gone. Only 4 more days of packing out then i'll get back to running and some swimming. 3+ months of living out of a suitcase is gonna be fun. Have leads on both of my cars, hopefully they won't be MY cars by the end of the week. That'll make it easier when i'm paying a mortgage on a house in Florida from Okinawa. |

We didn't chose Japan but we couldn't be more excited. The kids have been great, but they're 4, 3, and 1 yrs old so it's easy to make them happy. Besides that they are easy easy easy kids. Guess you can credit that to the stay-at-home dad Have to get back on the horse, there is an Okinawa Marathon at the end of Feb. |

Nor*Cal | Subject: RE: IMFL & recovery Went on my first bike ride this morning since IMFL. The road bike had been neglected for months in favor of the tri bike during IM training, so I took that out for spin. Left the house early AM, before the family woke up, like I usually do. Being back on the road bike was so much more comfortable since I didn't have to think about being aero. I didn't have a watch with me or the bike computer installed (it was still on the tri bike), so when I got home I was surprised I was only out for 2.5 hours. Being so used to very loooong IM training rides, today's ride felt usually short. Just 'weird' short. But my wife wasn't complaining. She was used to not seeing me until almost dinner time whenever I was doing a weekend ride. -ak- |
