Overall Rank = 29/82
Age Group = Relay division
Age Group Rank = 15/30
Pre-race routine:

Woke up 10 minutes before the alarm, got my coffee, got dressed, made egg and toast and drove the race route since I had an extra 10 minutes.
Event warmup:

Walked around, talked story, swung my arms around. It was so fun to see a great turn out for a tri that was only announces a few weeks before. There were 30 relay teams and 52 individual contestants.
Swim
  • 08m 15s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 04s / 100 yards
Comments:

Well lets just say there are a lot of very good swimmers on this island and we were all fighting to be number one. Very much a contact swim, doggy dog, someone actually grabbed my leg around the first buoy.
What would you do differently?:

Hard to say, I thought next time I might place myself a little more back from the guys but I don't think that would have made a difference. Hopefully next time they will let the guys go first.

Be in swim shape would of helped.
Transition 1
  • 01m 49s
Comments:

Very happy with this time since I was breathing very hard and exhausted from the swim frenzy.
What would you do differently?:

practice and be in shape for a race.
Bike
  • 59m 16s
  • 15.1 miles
  • 15.29 mile/hr
Comments:

My goal was an hour and I came in just under! This was a hilly coarse and with the strong winds pretty tough, but I really liked it. I managed to pass about 10 people and was passed by 5 guys three in the beginning; one I followed for most of the race, and two more on a steep hill in the middle.
What would you do differently?:

Be in biking shape, train!
Transition 2
  • 00m 13s
Comments:

This is where my relay teammate took over and did an excellent job!
Run
  • 26m 47s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

I believe this a personal best for my friend.
Post race
Warm down:

walked around, took a shower, and rinsed the mud off.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training.

Event comments:

This was their first time running a triathlon. This a canoe club with race experience so they did a decent job for the short time they put the race together, the race started around 7:15 which the goal was 7:00, with lots of last minute registrations they did a tremendous job with the limited number of volunteers, they even got transition times with out using a timing chip. They plan on doing a series, I'm very excited

No mermaids or sharks in the swim eh? Oh well, too bad about the hard contact in the swim, but nice to see the sub 1 hour bike time! Way to go Nancy!
