Veteran 1773 Dayton, OH | Subject: RE: Team Skinny (Dec 08) Sugar Plum Dreams and Candy Cane Wishes XcaliburGirl - 2008-12-31 1:34 PM January goal: 162 lbs That will bring me into "Normal" BMI territory. I'm currently near the bottom of "overweight" I was in the "obese" zone last January: seeing that word applied to myself was the final straw that got me to change my eating and (lack of) exercising habits. I know, I've been afraid of that word for most of my life... My dad and I have a lot in common, especially eating habits. And since I was little they've always told me to be careful about my weight. I don't want to end up like him. Pre-diabetic, perfect candidate for Lap-band/gastric bypass surgery, on a ton of medicines for BP, and other heart issues. Just keep working at it. It'll come, I promise! |

Good luck to getting everything reinstated, but I wouldn't hold your breath... Usually dollar signs is the only thing that matters to city officials (bottom line). |

The past 2 days has been pretty bad. I've been getting them in my lower back, and my tongue (tip), I know weird huh? It's probably epilepsy! Ha! But on a more serious note: This morning we received news that my uncle (dad's brother) had a stroke last night! He's doing ok now, but he's got severe bell's palsy. He doesn't even have the use of his left leg... So the family kind a circled the wagons today. We'll probably be taking a trip up to see him either tonight or tomorrow (just south of G. Rapids). Josh- I am so sorry about your uncle...Hopefully he get some of the function back...my dad had a stroke earlier this year and it was a rough road but he is almost back to normal! |

Veteran 1773 Dayton, OH | Subject: RE: Team Skinny (Dec 08) Sugar Plum Dreams and Candy Cane Wishes XcaliburGirl - 2008-12-31 9:19 AM 169.5 lbs .1 lb weight loss(!) from Christmas Eve to New Year's Eve That's alright! At least it's a loss. Now how do we compound that into .2 or .4 or 2 or 3 lbs...? Maybe add a run here or there? Or at the very least add 5 - 10 mins. to your best time. How about nutrition? Where do you think you can do better? Are you drinking enough water, or eating 5-6 meals a day? |

(I'll get there, lord knows I can't show up for a race in my tri shorts anytime soon!!) |

Expert 1773 San Gabriel Valley, California | Subject: RE: Team Skinny (Dec 08) Sugar Plum Dreams and Candy Cane Wishes I use the Weight Watchers weight as my official one for this challenge. But since I had been darn near perfect with my eating last week - helped tremendously by the No Sugar Challenge - I cheated and weighed myself at home this morning. It showed that I could expect a 3 pound loss today. Well, let me tel you, I was strutting something fierce. OK, I went to WW and found I was down 1.2 pounds. Now, I know perfectly well that a 1.2 pound loss is terrific, but I was soooooo disappointed. Silly, isn't it? So, I am at 155.6. Nowhere near my (unrealistic) goal to be at 150 by this date. My goal for January is to be at 150. Deja vu. Leah |

Expert 859 Perth, Australia | Subject: RE: Team Skinny (Dec 08) Sugar Plum Dreams and Candy Cane Wishes Forgot to put in a weight loss goal for January - 2lb. Hoping moving to a new gym will be motivating and that training with new people and in a new place will be reinvigorating. My plan for doing the Women's Tri Course in Jan/Feb has had to be shelved as the back is better but still a bit fragile. However, the new place I'll be training has a tri club, which I was going to join in July after I get back from a month in the UK. I've been in touch with them and I can do swim training without having to join the club. Wasn't sure just how much I wanted to get involved in Tri's so didn't want to commit the several hundred $ joining the club until I'd done a few. So I'll join when their years starts in July and in the meantime, do some training sessions that are open to non-members. The most exciting thing for me, is that they have a coached OWS every weekend. I'm a really nervous nelly around the ocean, having only learnt to swim a few years ago, not a lot of OWS in Scotland. So, until the back gets strong again, I can do a couple of coached sessions a week and practise lots inbetween. I'll also sign up for some strength training as I get some personal training sessions with my membership. Shermie, congratulations on the new baby, boy or girl? LisaB, wow, well done you Josh, sorry to hear about your uncle but hopefully he will recover a lot of function; my friend had a stroke a few years ago and lost the use of her left side. She's 76 but with lots of PT she has regained a lot of her former movement. She and her boyfriend (who's 78) last year sailed a yacht from Singapore to Perth, she's a real inspiration. Thoughts are with you. |

What a guy, hey and thanks for not throwing my slacker butt out of here this last year. I was the poster child of everything not to do to achieve goals, weightloss, feel better about yourself physically and overall athletically a horrible year. But thats the beautiful thing. Flip the page and its a New year with new beginnings and a whole new outlook and fresh start.

Expert 1022 In limbo | Subject: RE: Team Skinny (Dec 08) Sugar Plum Dreams and Candy Cane Wishes 194.6 The first time I've gone down in quite a while. It's only .4 lb down, but it's something. The plus side is that I've stayed pretty consistantly at 195 throughout the holidays, and i've made it through a full year of keeping the weight off and staying under 200....even through crazy work situations and a lot of challenges. I still have at least another 30 lbs to lose to be where I want to be, but I'm happy as can be that 195 has become my new normal! |

Veteran 1773 Dayton, OH | Subject: RE: Team Skinny (Dec 08) Sugar Plum Dreams and Candy Cane Wishes Thanx Daisy, as it's only been a day or to since the event, hopes are high. However, over the past several months he had been complaining of severe headaches and other things, and the Dr's didn't really do much except take a BP reading then sent him home, no scans (CT). And it's a little disheartening when Healthcare professionals tell us that WE are supposed to recognize signs of a heartattack/stroke. Isn't that why we pay them, to tell US what is wrong? I understand that some symptoms can create an elusive condition, but where is the vigor, and unrelenting search for the cures of ailments that afflict the public? It almost seems like you have to have an incurable disease in order to get funding now adays anyway. It just really sucks that so many people fall through the cracks of what is supposed to be a life preserver. |

It does suck that he recognized that something was wrong and went to the Docs and they missed it. It says a lot about the sad state of our healthcare system. Hope he improves daily. |
