They wear little hats, like the ones in the Wizard of Oz. I politely tell them to get off my back & get away. Despite my pleas, a few continue hop on & around me. It's pretty crazy I know, but it's funny and the process eases me up a bit. What do you all do to calm the nerves?

I always wondered what that strange sensation was : ). I think I deal with the stress by focusing too much on all the detail stuff....course...split times..gear..logistics..but it's all nerves. I haven't run a race in 25+ years and then only a 10k. So, I'm going for a personal record for the 1/2 mary....and so it will be! |

Regular 78 | Subject: RE: Momo's Group - (CLOSED) Hi Team Mo! Here are my results from my 5K race today... I had a decent race, especially considering I have a bad cough\cold and the weather freaking sucked (it was pouring down rain). I placed 421st overall out of 1583, 36th out of 150 in my age group and 169th out of 1038 in my gender category. Overall, a better finish that my last race even though I was only 14 seconds faster. I had kinda hoped to break the 28 minute mark but my watch was all screwed up because of the rain and I had no idea what my pace\time was and I had to go at it all by feel. I am NOT complaining at all. The most important thing to me is that I had fun running and secondly, that I improved my time. This time, I placed in the top quarter of the field, compared to my last race when I was only in the top 3rd. YAY! Next time, I will try to break 28 minutes. I guess my imporvements are going to be slowing from the leaps and bounds they were before I went below 30 minutes but I still have my ultimate goal of a 25 minute 5K in 2009. Member 153 ivy, va | Subject: RE: Momo's Group - (CLOSED) Congratulations RGR!! Fantastic!! Thanks for letting us know. Glad you had fun. You really did amazing - especially considering the nasty weather, large crowd and feeling a bit sub-par - and you continue to improve. Good for you. In a very short time you've been able to go from running 10 minute miles to running in the 9s. With focused interval training there's no doubt you will be in the 8s very soon. You can do it. You will do it. You're awesome! |

Veteran 127 Indianapolis, Indiana | Subject: RE: Momo's Group - (CLOSED) Seems kind of weird to be ending at this point??? We have barely just begun! I will continue to post here until..... Congrats on all the races and hope everyone is doing well. Sorry for the absence, but the vacation was great. Decided to cancel my trip this week so maybe I can update my log from the past two weeks! Actually finished my first half marathon of the year on Saturday. Did not run very fast (2:26) but keep my HR in check (~150-155) until the last few miles :-). I had a 9mi training session, but decided to opt in for the longer race with an internal promise no to go too fast and burn out. The first three miles were rough (still paying for the food and Margarita's from my Cancun trip) but had much more elevation than I have been running on. I slowed down and then got into a great rythm and stuck to my race. It was a little hard to run slower than what I thought, but I have another race scheduled next month and I will be able to pick up the pace with a little more confidence. Talk to you later. Member 153 ivy, va | Subject: RE: Momo's Group - (CLOSED) Completed my 1st tri! It was quite an experience. I was pretty excited leading up to race morning. Unfortunately, while waiting for my start time I saw how experienced and serious many of the racers were and I psyched myself out. I had a "what was I thinking" cry in the locker room shortly before my swim. Didn't shake it and never got my groove during the swim, ran the wrong way going to the transition area... I then sat down & took a few moments to pull it together. The bike was fun, but a little lonely. I thought there would be more people bunched together and/or cheering each other on. Same with the run. I was alone and starting to run out of gas just before the 1/2way point on the run when I heard "Go Diane!". It was Mo on his way back. That was awesome - just what I needed and I kicked it in a bit. Mo and I met up at the bbq afterwards. It was great to meet and spend some time together. All in all it was a great experience. Harder than I thought it would be. Made mistakes, but learned a lot. I'm really glad I did it. My thanks to all of you for your support and encouragement. Now, on to the next challenge... |
