Is anyone from the Cols area planning on doing this one? I'm considering adding it to my schedule but want to keep costs down. I was wondering if anyone is driving down that morning and wants to carpool and split gas costs. If we get a large group from Cols who all want to travel together I can drive my RV. I can take about 6-8 people and bikes in that. A smaller group and maybe we can just car it. Post here or send me a PM if anyone wants to carpool.

I plan on participating. This race has a special meaning as it was my first tri. I am looking forward to it being my first repeat so I can compare times.

I plan on going down on Friday to visit with my daughter who is a sophomore. See ya there!

i'll know a bit closer whether i am riding down with friends from denison or not. when we get a bit closer let me know what you are thinking plan wise and we'll figure something out.

on a side note, this was my first triathlon as well, did it that first year it was a race and man has it grown since then!

Newbz, I'll take you up on that offer. I'll register and either way we'll hook up the morning of.

This was my "first" race last year. It is a great one to do. Very well organized and lots of people there to cheer you on! Just pray for decent weather.

I am going to be racing and I am super excited because it is my first Tri.  I have 2 of my best buddies racing at Miami in their first tri as well.   I just have a few things I was wondering about.  Is the bike section flat or does it have hills? Also, I am really confused on how the swim works.  I saw on the HFP page that it was a 750M swim, but they only have an 8 lane pool.  Another question I have is how to you swim a serpentine? I believe I understand the concept, but do you make your turns and then go under the lane lines or what?  Last question, I have never done any swimming in a competitive capacity, but I timed myself in our pool at school last night and I swam a 6:10 400M in a 25M pool.  Is that fast or slow?  Any help you could give me is greatly appreciated.

It's a 400 meter swim. You enter the pool, swim 1 length, make your turn and then as you push off you go under the lane line. Repeat 7 more times.

The bike course is rolling. There will be enough hills to keep you busy and keep things intresting.

A 6:10 400M is a pretty fast time. I'd make sure you have the distance of the pool correct. See you in April!

i checked with the guy who runs the university pool and he said it was a 25M pool.  Thanks for the info on the turns, I will practice those from now on.  I will need the good swim time just to not get destroyed on the bike and run.

BJ, you've definitely got a killer time on the swim.

That is great info on the turns.  I'll start practicing them, too, when the other lane is open.

I have a hard time disagreeing with the guy who actually runs the pool, but MU's Web site says it's a 50 meter, 8 lane pool.

There is a hill about mile 2 that is a killer. I would say 80% ended up walking their bike up. The bike course is very nice. Let's just hope for good weather.

On the steep hill I saw a couple people losing thier breakfast.  I MU pool is a 50 meter pool with 8 lanes. The turns can get a little congested. The race is really nice venue. Hopefully it won't rain again this year.

Thoughts?

I suspect he means his "home" pool, not the MU pool.

the course is great, bike course is for the most part gentle rolling hills, no where near as bad as the first year. two mid sized hills on the bike, but neither are very long, run is DEAD FLAT through campus.

time for another one of my newbie questions.  Do they provide a swim cap that I would have to wear or can I use my own?
