Pre-race routine:

Not much, just tried to stay as warm and dry as possible. Took off my coat at the last minute and lined up at an 8-min mile pace even though i know I was closer to 9. The race started about 10 minutes late, so we all huddled together to stay warm.
Event warmup:

Jumped around a bit.

Comments:

Worked hard to keep up with my sister, she is a super fast runner.....(brat). We had plans to videotape our jumps into the Lake so we stayed together.
What would you do differently?:

Warm up before the race. It didn't occur to me....whatever!
Post race
Warm down:

After going through the finish, my sister and I decided we ought to do one more lake jump. I sort of waded in and splashed, while she went for it and fell down and got totally swamped by some waves. It was hilarious and all on video. Then we got our stuff and went to the changing tent, which was possibly the hardest part of the whole day. Imagine a very dark tent full of soaking wet, half-naked women, with the floor pure icy cold mud and everyone numb, trying not to get their dry clothes wet or fall over while changing. Insane. It felt so good to have on my wool sweater, wool socks and warm pants!!! Then we got some chili and coffee.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Holiday weight. Oh, could I feel it today. I have some serious dieting to do and do it now!!

Event comments:

This will be an annual event, for sure. Today was 2 in a row.....

Overall: 0/1000?
Performance: Average
The time includes a jump into Lake Washington, and after I was done, grabbing my sister's video camera and taping her jump into the lake. Without screwing around the time would have been about a minute faster. My actual splits were 8:55/8:54 and 11.37 (last 1.1 mile plus swim).
Course: Around Magnuson Park, a couple of minor hills, lots of puddles, mud and turns.

Here's me and my sister prior to the race.  Note the lovely gray fog/rain/clouds.  Brrrr.

BRRRRR indeed! Great pic of you and your sis. It just LOOKS cold.

Awesome job toughing it out in the cold and the run even feeling the holidays on you! And to jump in that lake again even after doing this shiverfest last year---YOU ROCK!!!

Brrrrrr.  Kinda glad I backed out.  The video of your sister falling is classic!  Well done on this race! Wish I could have been there (sans water jumping thingy of course...heheh)

And you think I'm crazy for riding on cold days?  I haven't jumped in a cold lake in the middle of winter!    Nice job.
