Pre-race routine:

http://www.trifamilyracing.com/Events/2005/2005_MarScottsTri.htm.

Stood around for a long time while the children's race started and finished... The race director seemed frazzled! Fortunately there were good restrooms available in the Eldorado Aquatic Center, and the lines were short. I stayed in sweats until last minute and tried to get off my feet as much as possible.
Swim
  • 07m 30s
  • 300 yards
  • 02m 30s / 100 yards
Comments:

I wasn't very good at the zigzag transition between lanes... Also, I was feeling a bit overwhelmed/nervous and this affected my breathing. Several (6) people passed me, but I do not feel that I was going overly slow (for me).
What would you do differently?:

Practicing the zigzagging across the pool beforehand would have been useful.... Otherwise, general work on swimming better will help in the swim portions.
Transition 1
  • 03m
Comments:

I was out of breath for the swim so did not transition as quickly as I could have...
What would you do differently?:

Practice transitioning after vigorous swim workouts to help maintain focus and get a routine down....
Bike
  • 42m 30s
  • 11.95 miles
  • 16.87 mile/hr
Comments:

I thought i did good on the bike, and even made use of the aero position to be more dynamic on the windy streets.
What would you do differently?:

Practice turning corners more quickly/efficiently. Also, need to be able to stop and start with less fuss. (Getting feet back in the cages, etc).
Transition 2
  • 00m 12s
Comments:

Quick transition, not too much problem here.
What would you do differently?:

Grab a gel and some water.
Run
  • 28m 50s
  • 3 miles
  • 09m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

Tired - not enough fuel... Ended up walking a bit but my pace was otherwise fast.
What would you do differently?:

Fuel up before/during...
Post race
Warm down:

I rested.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My swimming ability, lack of food.

Event comments:

Good practice race.

Hey I just ran this race today as well. Congrats on a great race!
This is the first time I swam a TRI in a pool, that zigzagging thing was interesting to say the least. I'm not sure if I miss having the mass start mayhem. Overall I thought it was a great day.

Count me as a survivor of this race!

The zigzag in the pool was interesting, but I had a tough time with the bike. The portions that had narrowed down to a glorified bike lane were tough to pass on, so I just didn't. I waited until they opened up to a complete lane. The other challenge was the marking area for laps. It reminded me of the pit stop area in NASCAR. I figured for sure there was going to be a wreck with people angling for position out of there. But all went well. I think everyone had a good time and didn't worry too much about placement.

As for myself, this was my first tri after training for 6 weeks so I guess I'm happy with my times. It's a PR for me!

BTW, I was passed by 3 people in the pool.
