Comments: I don't like run starts my heart rate goes too high. I positioned myself to the left of the start line as I could see the way the current was pushing and the buoys seemd to be a little off ot the right. I also stood behind a few local surf club dudes thinking they would know what they were doing. I took it easy bounding into the water and dived my way out through the small breakers. then started swimming, my heart rate was pretty high so I pulled back the pac a little and just tried to settle down. a few people passed me at this stage but once I'd gone around the first turn buoy, I steadied and picked up the pace, once past that first buoy not one swimmer overtook me!! I steadily just kept passing swimmers in front of me. I pushed it hard but not too ahrd knowing I had the race on sun. I started overheating a bit in the wetsuit. was pleasantly surprised to see the last turning buoy getting closer and closer, as I stood to run up the beach one older guy passed me. What would you do differently?: Probably not do a swim race before a big long course race! Post race

wandered down to the race start from our accom, considered not wearing my wetsuit,, but decided I should do a swim in a wettie before the big race on sun.
pulled on the wettie, wandered into the water for a quick goggles check and drinks break :) turned the arms over and went to line up on the sand. I hate run starts
