Total Time = 1h 20m
Overall Rank = 771/1176
Age Group = 16-19 Male
Age Group Rank = 26/30
Pre-race routine:

Watched Superkids and Enticer distance as I wasn't starting until 8:19. Banana, yoghurt and coffee for breakfast, then another coffee and banana about 7:10 or so.
Event warmup:

Did a bit of a jog and some stretches around 8am and had a short swim.
Swim
  • 14m 36s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 57s / 100 meters
Comments:

Felt quite good. I didn't push myself too hard and managed to draft of a few guys. Got overtaken by a few of the fast people from the next wave, but they're freaks.
What would you do differently?:

More threshold intensity training so I can go faster.
Transition 1
  • 03m 2s
Comments:

Had a 10k run from the water to my bike. Ok, it wasn't that far, but still about 250m. Still didn't feel confident getting into bike shoes on the bike, so I clomped out of transition. Apart from the overland trek from the water to the racks, the actual transition was good.
What would you do differently?:

More practice on getting feet into shoes on the bike.
Bike
  • 36m 46s
  • 20 kms
  • 32.64 km/hr
Comments:

Went out on the bike a little too fast (about 35-40kph). Luckily it didn't cost me too much on the run. Lots of people were still on the course, even though I was one of the last waves to go. I was very happy with my cycle, maintained above my goal pace (31kph) for the whole time just about.
What would you do differently?:

More high intensity training so I can go harder!
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

I need to get the whole multiple-things-at-once thing downpat. For me I do one thing at a time.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 26m 7s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 13s  min/km
Comments:

1st km: 5:10 - was happy with this pace and tried to maintain it. I was hurting a lot at the end.
What would you do differently?:

Aside from more bricks to train running on tired legs, nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Got some gatorade and water and banana. Went in the water and did some stretches.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need more high intensity training.

Event comments:

Of the 3 tri's I've done (I did this last year as well), it was the best! Perhaps knowing what to expect (to the degree that you can) helped. I also trained a lot better this year, and it showed in my 4:30 improvement. I was just outside my goal of 1:20:00, which can partly be attributed to the epic T1 run, and partly to me not quite going hard enough. Overall very happy and look forward to my first Oly distance at Mooloolaba in 3 weeks.

Nice race, competition in your age group looks tough.

Great job!  Lets see - 8:19...  We may have passed echother on the bike!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought the run to the bikes from the swim was 10km...

Good luck for Mooloolaba!
