Well now I have to debate about doing the Texas Man - since it is open water they might have the timing mate on a boat floating in the lake, with a guy on the back with binoculars watching the waves start - might have to jump and do the Ironhead race

I've been told that it will NOT be the same timing company doing DSU's open water races.

Just got confirmation from them.   It will be Atomic Racing doing both TexasMan and Disco.

There were some timing issue but my biggest complaint was the swim. At one point i think there were 5 slower people bottle necked in front of me and I'm not even a fast swimmer.

Not much you can do about a crowded swim. The idea on placing people in order of swim time is great, but too many people lie about their times. Or some just don't know and either guess too high or too low and it results in nutty-ness.

Pool swims are always going to be crowded by nature. At least with DA races they do 1 way lanes so you have a chance to pass.

I was lucky enough to not have any traffic at all when I swam. They gave the guy in front of me 30 seconds between, so we had clear water most of the swim. The only time I was behind somebody was when I let the guy behind me pass so I could draft off his feet. Worked like a charm.

Got an e-mail from Dan Jones today...

Dear Caveman Athlete, Race result inconsistencies have been found at last Sunday's event. We are reviewing all age groups and overall results. If mistakes are discovered that effect age group winners, awards will be distributed based on those corrections. I noticed we were having "technical challenges" at the conclusion of the event. After over five-years of race history, we've never had a this issue cast such a large net. The mistakes were not intentional. I know all of you have worked hard and want accurate race results.  And I will give them to you. I have already made timing decisions for our May 17th TexasMan and July 19th Disco Triathlons. These decisions I hope will eliminate future problems.  If you have ANY questions regarding yourtiming at Caveman, please contact Michele directly at michhudd@sbcglobal.

Lastly, the good news is that an overwhelming number of athletes had what we hoped was a fun experience! Thanks for your understanding and kind support,

Dan Jones
Director of Racing
Dallas Athletes Racing

WOW! What a mess!

Reminds me of the Butterfly Boogie this year... the timing results were completely messed up. We knew it was off simply because my friend wore my Garmin... even when they got the "right" time entered, it was still wrong. UGH!

Timing mistakes can be completely frustrating!

With that said... let's look at the rest of the race... the parts that DA was running... that stuff was good. The race hats and shirts were very nice... the medals at the end was something extra...and hot pancakes when you finish is pretty cool.

So the stuff that was in their control was good... and now they just need to hire a new timing company!

This is why I don't do pool swims. This wasn't DA's fault... it's just the nature of a tri with a pool swim.

Most people pad their swim times, or have NO CLUE about what their times are... and then you have people swimming over each other and people backed up at the walls.

If you didn't like how it worked out... then only do open water swims.

I swam faster than my entered time and still had people passing me. I don't think people lie so much as it's really difficult to judge your time based on all the variables involved in a triathlon swim.

Part of the issue is the 25 yard pool, which seems more crowded on the ends than a 50 yard pool, and times will be faster on the shorter distance, so many might put a 100 yd time and go faster since you are pushing of the wall every 25 yds.

I'll freely admit to lying about my swim time. I usually subtract about 15 seconds from what I swim. My goal is to get passed by the guy behind me and cling to his feet. I was only 5 seconds off this race (put 4:15, swam 4:19).

Well your honest which is great since many don't know or lie big about the swim, I don't mind if the just stay right and let you pass. Usually when a DA event has Tri 101 classes, the beginners are all over the race times, I saw one breast stroking on the second lap.

Ha, I put 4:45 and came out in 4:19. D'oh!

But yea, generally I drop it a few seconds because I know everyone else around me is doing it too.

Well that will probably be the plan from now on but like one member said I normal do sprints with 50 meter pools swims and they are not nearly as crowded.
