Age Group Rank = 7/12
Pre-race routine:

It was pouring with rain all night so I didn't sleep very well. It was still raining at 5am when I woke up and I thought seriuosly about rolling back over and going back to sleep :)

It stopped raining when I was about to get out of my car at the beach.
Event warmup:

I did a little run and a stretch
Swim
  • 10h 04m
  • 500 meters
  • 2h 00m 48s / 100 meters
Comments:

I got stung three times during the swim. the Ocean was perfect temp and perfect conditions really. But I stressed out because of the stings, one was a blue bottle jelly which was pretty nasty. So that put me off the swim.

I still managed to catch up and pass a few people from the wave in front of me though.

What would you do differently?:

Avoid the jelly's (hmm that might take some doing though)
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

I struggled getting my shoes on. and coudln't decide if I needed my sunglasses or not.
What would you do differently?:

Not think about whether to wear sunnies just put them on regardless. I can always take them off and put them in my shirt pocket
Bike
  • 44h 11m
  • 16 kms
  • 0.36 km/hr
Comments:

I didn't enjoy the bike leg. it was quite hard. with some tight turns. The road was really wet from the earlier rain. I have no experience with wet roads so I was pretty cautious which meant I went pretty slowly.

Transition times were part of the Bike time
What would you do differently?:

go faster (more training)
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

My legs and feet didn't want to work when I got off the bike. but the transition was pretty good apart from that
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 23h 17m
  • 4 kms
  • 5h 49m 15s  min/km
Comments:

I've got problems with my feet and shins which are being sorted at them oment with my phsyio. So I knew the run was going to hurt my legs. I really wasn't very fast at all. But I did feel ok the second half of the run.
What would you do differently?:

More running training and get my feet sorted out.
Post race
Warm down:

Lots of water and I jumped back in the ocean for a quick cool down swim.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My feet and legs meant I couldn't run fast at all. As this was my second tri I know I just need to keep training and keep going and I'll get faster!

Event comments:

I'm pretty happy with my second race!

Wow! I can't believe you got stung by jellyfish. That's a triathlete's worst swim-nightmare (besides sharks I guess). Great job getting through that and still finishing strong. I hope your leg/shin problems clear up soon.

Well done in really tough conditions! Bloody jellyfish and bluebottle stings are terrible. Good on you for pushing through. All the best with the shins etc - get some good advice and rest when your body tells you to.
Take care

Yep I really didnt enjoy the blue bottle stings. I've only ever been stung by blue bottles at one beach in Perth and it happens to be City beach where the tri was. They must know I'm coming

I've got another tri on Sunday at another beach so hopefully they won't find me there!

Yep I'm getting some good advice about my feet (which are causing my shin problems) I'm seeing a Physio who is also a podatrist. I've got orthotics on the way. Hopefully that will solve my problems (well fingers crossed anyway)

thanks for reading my race report by the way!!
