How do you plan to Train for the remaining six weeks before the Texas Man Sprint Triathlon?  If you have never OWSed, how and when do you intend to get out to a nearby lake?

it's getting closer temp wise where some of the tri groups will be having OWS.. I know of a couple that already have, but it was pretty cold....  But if you can't make any OWS or there just isn't any..   Just keep swimming in the pool. swimming is still swimming.

My training will be different since I will actually start training..

I regularly just drive out to Lake Lavon to Collin Park and go swim by myself. This is a pay park. Costs a couple bucks to get in. They have a roped off swimming area. I'll regularly just swim back and forth along the rope. There's also some buoys about 20 feet past the rope that I'll swim along also to help practice siting. You can go swim at other parks too but the roped off area keeps boats away and makes me feel a tad bit safer. Worth it for a couple of bucks.

I plan on going this Friday and/or Sunday to get some practice in before next weekends King Tut race. I'll see how warm the water is this time of year.

I'd like to go to some of the open water workouts that some of the groups have in the area as they are generally pretty cheap, they just never seem to fit my schedule.

In the past they have run a pre-tri clinic where they put on an open water swim clinic and then go for a ride along the sprint bike course. This is highly recommended, even more so if you are new to open water swimming.

I do not think they have posted the date for it yet, but I think it was a week or two before the race last year.

I would definitely recommend the pre-tri if they are still doing them.  They have the course all set up so you can swim and then ride.  Tom also does a really good transition clinic.  See ya there

I'm in for the sprint. It'll be my first race of the year.

Does anyone know where the packet pick up will be? I'm not crazy about driving from my home in Abilene to Dallas and then to Denton but that'll probably be the way it'll work out.

The site did not have ay updates for the packet pick-up either. If it is anything like the St. Patty's you will have to drive from Abilene to BFE (even BFE for me from west Fort Worth).

HOPEFULLY, this will be my first tri of the season depending on my shoulder injury and if I can start swimming soon. It's been 4 freakin' months!!!! But, I think I'm almost there. I will have no problem with the bike or the run since that's all I've been doing!

Then you Swim the Nile, Bike the Pyramids, and Run the Desert, and think to yourself "What was I thinking when I signed on for this?"

May 17th!!!

I'm so upset. I wanted to to this race again this year... but I'm doing a marathon in Minnesota the day before. Oh well, maybe next year?

Is anyone doing the Pre-Tri this weekend?  Is anyone else afraid that the forecasted thunderstorms are going to sabotage not only Pre-Tri weekend but the race next weekend?

There is a holiday inn up there that is pretty nice.  Not much to choose from in Denton but I think that is your best bet!

Only 2 days to pick up packets and neither location is very good.  Why can't they have one day in Coppell, one in Ft. worth, and one in Plano/Richardson.  I know several people who want to do this race but can't make it to packet pick up because of work and soccer with thier kids.  A Friday packet pick up would really make it much better!!!!
