Overall Rank = 24/134

Age Group Rank = 4/13
Pre-race routine:

race was at 10 so I had a normal breakfast around 730
Event warmup:

jogging for a few minutes, stretching and trying to stay out of the wind. The start is at the top of a hill with no trees so the wind made it very chilly
Run
  • 51m 46s
  • 6.2 miles

Comments:

very hilly, very windy, very muddy, very fun. Nice way to work off a slight hangover. I beat my time last year by four minutes. Was hoping to run sub 8 but I hadnt done much training directed at 10k distance and the course itself is very challneging. But of course the winner averaged 6:50 miles so it can be done.
What would you do differently?:

not stay up drinking rum the night before.
Post race
Warm down:

just a little jogging and walking. eating twizzlers and bananas and drinking some water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

some rum flavor named tattoo. very tasty and hard to detect in my diet coke :)

Event comments:

I love the mud. Stupid Ohio weather never makes this race very warm. It would be more fun if it was 60 and raining instead of 45 and windy.

Performance: Average
Course: a hilly run up and down various valleys surrounding twin creek. several small streams had to be "forded"(you had to step in water at least to you ankle for a step or two). A recent rain had made several areas extremely muddy, which was part of the allure. The finish is a half mile up a pretty steep grade.

I wore all white to show the mud better. This is actually at the start of the final hill ascent to the finish. My back is covered in mud but my front is remarkably clean. I guess I wasnt fast enough to be trailing anyone for long.
