Veteran 246 Racine, WI | Subject: Wisconsin Marathon and Half-Marathon : Official Thread Its about 2 weeks until the First Wisconsin Marathon and 1/2 Marathon. I'm running the half and looking forward to it. Was thinking about running a portion of the course this weekend (sunday april 19). The weather cool as it's been, i'm afraid come race day it will be about 75 and we'll all be 'grilled' cheese(except those that have been at secret training camps in Arizona).  How is your training going and what are your goals for race day. My training is okay. I'm healthy, haven't done any real long runs, but manage to swim some each week, run 3-4 days and weight/resistance/core training. Even got out once for 23 mile bike ride @ 17mph average pace.  I think i'm ready to cover the 13.1 miles, my time i'm estimating right now to be around 1:28.  I'd love to get to around 1:23-1:25, but not that fast now. I'll have better idea after the Get in Gear 10K next weekend.  Hope everyone is healthy and training going good.  Good Luck |

Champion 34263 Chicago | Subject: RE: Wisconsin Marathon and Half-Marathon : Official Thread Dude. 1:28? I'm slow. Sigh. OK quick decision. The half or the full??? I'm tempted to say `F it' and do the full. But, I don't wanna hurt myself and a half mary is much more manageable. I just did a HIM so I'm sure I could finish, albeit slow because of my lack of long training runs. Then again there are more than two weeks left until race day so I could get in a 20-miler this weekend. Decisions decisions. Edited by mr2tony 2009-04-17 4:17 PM |

Tony, if you're serious of doing the race, I have a free entry if you want. I'm very sure that it's not associated to my name, but can double-check. It's yours if you want it. |

This thread freaked me out cuz I know The Madison Marathon isn't until the end of May and I need to time to prepare. |

Veteran 246 Racine, WI | Subject: RE: Wisconsin Marathon and Half-Marathon : Official Thread We had nice weather for this race and it sold out at 2000 runners. I'm not sure how many were 1/2 marathoners and how many were there for the big show. I ran the half and don't have any official results, but had good experience. For a first year event, it wasn't all that bad. The race packet pick up was at a hotel about 10 miles form the race site at a major hotel on the interstate. Had to get your stuff on Friday. Not a problem, because it only about 20 min for me. This race was good choice becuase it is local. The tech shirt is nice but the whole Wisconsin Marathon theme seemed to stereotype wisconsinites for being cheeseheads. Sorry, not my style. The race course was spectator friendly and easy to follow. The volunteers and aid stations did a fine job. Water and HEED were available about every 2 miles, but sometimes the mile marker was same place, so i missed a couple a splits. At 10.5 miles, we went past the start/finish area and went down a bit before we did U turn and headed back, the marathoners went straight. Got a bratwurst and beer with race number at post race party. Then went back to watch friends coming in. It was a great morning - sunshine and warmer temps than we had all week. The finsiher medal is shaped like a wedge of cheese - the same kind several runners wore on their heads (thought that fad was over after Packers won superbowl) No results were posted, although they used disposable chips and said that times would be updated often. The website shows age groups - Marathon 18+ Half Marathon 14+ so i'm guessing there are no 5/10 year age group awards. If that so, it kinda burns me, becuase i worked my butt off to finish what i beleive is second in AG closing to about 20 sec behind the guy ahead of me. I got top 10 finish and am very pleased with my effort and time of about 1:25.40 I would give this race a 7 on 10 scale. |
