Overcast
Total Time = 21m 31s
Overall Rank = 26/529
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 3/35
Pre-race routine:

Nothing special
Event warmup:

Took a bus to the start, did some jogging and easy sprints. Was a little rushed for what ended up being no reason, as there was plenty of time and forgot to take water/drink to the start.
Run
  • 21m 31s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

Had pretty strong tailwind going out and paid for it on the return leg. Cool to run on the runway at JFK. Ran around 6:30 - 6:40 going out. My new base seems to be 7 min pace.
What would you do differently?:

Bring water with me to the start.
Post race
Warm down:

No real warmdown.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Right hammy, more running, speed.

Event comments:

Took a long time to get results. Waited around. Cool race, would do it again.

It was quite unique. While we waited we got a great view of planes landing and during the race we could see them all lined up ready to take off.

I would probably do it again.

I would do this race just for the views of the planes!
This sounds really cool.

I've uploaded the route, courtesy of my Garmin:

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/map.asp?route...

Spectators were also allowed in the 'staging area', but not on the actual course. They could see the planes landing. This was my first year doing it, and they used a different part of the airport. From what I was told, this was better.

Lots of people had cameras and were snapping away. At the staging area they was a structure that looks like part of a plan, used for rescue training.

There was a fair amount of security and warned us to stay on the course.
