Swim
Comments: I got stuck behind a slow guy but he allowed me to pass him at the wall. Then I got stuck behind another slow guy... he was walking a lot of it and doing this leap forward-swim-walk routine. That was really annoying and it was hard to pass which forced me to get hit and block others trying to pass him, but whatever. 6:16 is good for my swim time. What would you do differently?: nada Transition 1
Comments: Hardly dried off, just tried to put socks on wet feet- always a struggle. lol What would you do differently?: nada Bike
Comments: This is where the race turned sour for me. On the bike my chain came off three times, so I had to get off the bike and work it back on. That took some time, not a lot my maybe 5-10 minutes. Well 5 to 10 minutes, raises my bike time to a more acceptable pace. The hills were harder than I thought, I actually didn't know it would be crazy hills like that. What would you do differently?: Well, bike more, hills more- I need to work on getting my breathing under control, for the first half hour I hated the bike, I was breathing hard and doing whatever. I just need to calm down and breathe slowly and get it under control. Transition 2
Comments: Times were the same, no big deal. I don't really care about T1 and T2... What would you do differently?: There's not a whole lot to do differently, take those shoes off put these shoes on. Run
Comments: Poo poo. speaking of poo poo, I really had to pee- super bad so bouncing up and down was not helpful. Shin splints were the main issue and just not having the gusto to go out and get it. Some of the race volunteers ran with me up hell hill and that was amazing- I wouldn't have made it up running if they hadn't. And JMU formed a tunnel for me to go through at the race finish, so that was amazing. What would you do differently?: I need to run more-flat out. Ohh and pee before the swim, get everything out of me before starting the race-or find a portapotty, but I didn't see one anywhere so I held it. Post race
Warm down: Water, tootsie roll, bathroom, a tiny amount of stretching. What limited your ability to perform faster: I suck in general... oh not to mention the cold I'm working through. Event comments: The volunteers are the absolute best! Lot of them all over the place with clappers to keep you moving, running with you up hills and shouting at you to keep moving, they really make the race. Last updated: 2009-02-10 12:00 AM

I stayed at Mark and Carolyns house the night before, stayed up too late talking about nothing, got up early, bowl of Cheerios and off I go.
I ate a granola bar half an hour before the swim, and drank water.
None- you could swim in a lower pool if you wanted to.
