Subject: First Day Training for the Swimming Portion

Aloha Everyone:

Today will be my first day training for the swimming portion of a Triathlon in July. I am fortunate to have a pool at our condo, but was curious as to how I should train? I’m a fairly good swimmer and swim often. The problem is that I’ve never swam a ½ mile and my breathing probably needs work. Any ideas on how I should train and how long/how many laps I should do on the first day?

Thanks for any advice you can offer..

There's a really good beginner swim program on this site that i've been using to build up my swim.  I'll look up the link.  I just started swimming last summer with basic swim lessons and i am prepping for my first tris. After I got as much as I could out of the swim lessons and then i picked up the swim program from here. I am just about done Month 1.  I really like the structure.

That was brutal. I thought I was a great swimmer until I tried to see how long I could go without stopping... THREE LOUSY laps... I'm glad I have three months to train! Today was a big wake up call for me...

thanks for the post..
