Pre-race routine:

We arrive early. Set up our transition areas, went to the bathroom and stretched while waiting for mom and dad to arrive.
Swim
  • 20m 57s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 23s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was my first official OWS. I started near the front of my wave. I was about 2 rows deep of swimmers in front of me. The 1st 200 meters were a bit rough with the crowd of people, but then I started to notice some open water around me and I wasn't running up the person in front of me. Little did I know I was making headway on my wave and catching the previous wave in front of me.
What would you do differently?:

Keep my head down. I angled my head so I had more drag. I think I was trying to see where I was going and making sure I didnt go off course.
Transition 1
  • 06m 16s
Comments:

The transition was slow b/c I had to PEE. I didnt get the bladder all emptied before swimming and couldn't manage it in the water and now it was here to bite me in the arse. I also tipped over and put my clean foot back in the dirt. Ugh.
What would you do differently?:

Pee before the race...again!!!
Bike
  • 50m 11s
  • 12 miles
  • 14.35 mile/hr
Comments:

I was going good here. I kept a nice steady pace onthe course and passed a lot of people. It seemed the only bikes to pass me were road bikes while I was on my mountain bike. I kept a steady cadence to preserve the legs. Just before the 6 mile marker, I saw my sister so I knew about where I was compared to her on the course. We were about a mile apart.
What would you do differently?:

Pedal faster ;) Get a road bike :p
Transition 2
  • 02m 57s
Comments:

T2 went very well...just dropped the bike, grabbed a snack and was off.
What would you do differently?:

Pulled the snack off the bike bfore I came into transition. Also, try not to lose the water bottle dismounting.
Run
  • 51m 3s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 16m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

I didnt run, except when the camera was in view. I walked the distance, struck up some conversations and made my way around the course. I need to practice running post bike ride. I should have picked up the pace and maybe jogged a bit more.
What would you do differently?:

Kept running til the finish line instead of stopping 50 ft early and then realizing I wasnt there yet. LOL
