Swim
Comments: This is a weird swim. You could get up and run for large portions. I didnt do that because running in a wetsuit is hard enough and running through knee/waist deep water is harder. I just swam the whole way and pulled myself along the bottom when appropriate. I went faster than the guys running and I didnt burn the legs. What would you do differently?: Not much but this is truly a wacky swim with massive congestion at buoys, shallow water, etc. I did well but I enjoy the open water much more. Transition 1
Comments: No T time. Went well except wetsuit got a little stuck on one ankle. My feet had some small gravel on them and were damp. What would you do differently?: bring an extra foot towel and spend a few seconds on loving the feet. Bike
Comments: My feet were numb on my last tri. It happened again this tri. I figured out about 8 miles in - wet cold feet, very ambient air and toe vents equals numb toes and forefoot. But that distraction cant explain my craptacular bike. I have regressed again. I felt like I was riding a moutain bike with so many passing me. I have put in many more hours of training this year than last but I am right back where I started. Very disheartening. I wasnt challenged CV but my legs would really burn if I left my 90 cadence ring and my breathing would get laboured. Guess more miles is the only solution. What would you do differently?: I guess I need more time on the bike. I do alot of my training on the trainer due to time constraints. I do not get a lot of road time and wind and uneven conditions are something I dont encounter alot in my basement. Transition 2
Comments: No T time posted. I had some issues with getting my feet out of my shoes while riding because I couldnt feel them. That made pedaling, jumping and running with the bike really weird and possibly dangerous. Change out was real quick though. Run
Comments: The numb foot stuff made the first 2 miles slower than I would have liked. It is hard to push/flex off the foot you cant feel. The first half was probably a little hard and I started breathing too hard/wheezing. I slowed it down a bit and caught many of the people who made my life miserable on the bike. I wanted to run in the sixes and I did. I didnt finish that hard because no one was near me in front or behind to push/pull me. What would you do differently?: Tape the vent on the biking shoes. Post race
Warm down: eating a banana? What limited your ability to perform faster: The cold feet and my notawesome biking ability. Obviously I finished 2nd in my age group in the swim and run but couldnt keep the time that I gave back on the bike. Event comments: I did well in 2/3rds of the triathlon. I hit my goal of finishing the run under 7 min miles. I hit my goal of being in the top 15% out of the water. I missed my goal of breaking 21 mph on the bike. The swim is weird. The run is nice and flat. The bike course had some rough patches but was a fast track for others. If I can get the bike under some control and squeeze 1-1.5 mph out of it, I could be pushing into the top 3 Last updated: 2009-04-20 12:00 AM

Slept at a friends house prior to the race (she lives 2 miles from race site). Note to self: Dont spend night at OCD ADD friends house who decided to stop taking her medication a week before. I got up ate a yogurt and an apple.
Ran for about 5 minutes and was able to get in the pool to swim a bit. Wetsuits are fun. I feel like an S+M otter.
