Pre-race routine:

Got up and got the gang off to church, had a banana and coffee and headed out to the race site. Was starving on the 45 minute drive and ate a fiber bar I was afraid I would regret later, but didn't.
Event warmup:

Jogged up to packet pick up, jogged back to the car to drop bag and coat. jogged up to start did some sprints though the rows of grapes.

  • 3.11 miles

Comments:

I took a different strategy on this run. Normally I go out hard and fast at the start and run that way until I can't sustain it anymore, and then drop into a comfortable pace. I always hit a wall about 1.5 miles and have trouble holding pace even. Today I tried starting out at about a 7:30 pace and hoped to negative split every mile thereafter. Close but no dice, last mile was slowest and the same damn wall was in this race too! But it was placed a little further into the run.
What would you do differently?:

I think I will try this strategy again, but maybe jump a little harder at the start. I feel like my legs have more to give, but my cardio can't keep up.....look at that HR.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank a bottle of water, ate a banana, and italian ice. Caught up with a friend who during the race was booking past me on the turnaround running with his dog, taking a picture of me! Maybe I should get a fast dog and just hold on for the entire 3 miles. We headed over to the wine tasting tent, and tasted a few bottles of wine. Don't know if it was the post race spit, but wasn't the greatest wine I have ever tasted.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My cardio can't keep up with my lungs for some reason.

Event comments:

This is a good race and the wine tasting and vendors are a plus. Next year they should put the dogs and runners up front with a start, then the two legged runners, then the strollers and walkers. It would make the course a little safer.
