Total Time = 2h 12m 19s
Overall Rank = 46/325
Age Group = M25-29
Age Group Rank = 5/19
Pre-race routine:

Just woke up 3.5 hours before race start, drove down to the race, and drank a bottle of gatorade.
Event warmup:

Running back to transition to drop off my sunglasses...kind of upset with myself for bringing them down to the water. What was I thinking?
Swim
  • 18m 47s
  • 1320 yards
  • 01m 25s / 100 yards
Comments:

Things started pretty good and felt great for first 200 yards or so. However, once I got further into the race (i.e., 200-500 yards), things went to sh#$. I started hyperventilating and had to stop a couple of times, with a few stints of breaststroke mixed in. Unzipped the wetsuit for a bit, then zipped it up. Ultimately, I think this was a combination of not having worn the suit since October and tightening the velcro strap a little too much. Once I got comfy, I felt as if I was moving up through the field pretty rapidly.
What would you do differently?:

Swim in the wetsuit before the race for part of a warmup.
Transition 1
  • 03m 8s
Comments:

Feet were hurting during run between swim and transition area. Too many rocks for my sensitive feet, I didn't mind sacrificing a minute to have more comfy feet!
What would you do differently?:

I could have been a little quicker during the run between the swim and transition area....
Bike
  • 1h 04m 47s
  • 24 miles
  • 22.23 mile/hr
Comments:

Pretty happy with most of the ride. Didn't quite have enough leg strength to turn my legs in a hard enough gear. Went out a little too hard I think. Cadence was good throughout, but since it was a flat course, I should have been in the big gear more. Should try to drop cadence down to something closer to 90rpms (from 104rpms) to see if that will help with speed.
What would you do differently?:

Build more leg strength. I am going to spend some time in the hills over the next few weeks to see if I can do something about this!
Transition 2
  • 01m 58s
Comments:

Legs were cramping. Walked from bike to run start...was hurting!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing but have more legs under me.
Run
  • 43m 39s
  • 6 miles
  • 07m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

Wyatt (some guy I met in my age group) saved me and got me through the first four miles or so. I started to push the pace for the last two miles, which felt great. Passed someone in my age group 50 yards from the finish...part of me feels like I shouldnt have sneaked up on him and passed him.
What would you do differently?:

I should have done a better job hydrating since it was so hot. Other than that, I was fairly happy.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

I really need more leg strength.

Amazing swim speed, particularly if you had to stop to fix the wetsuit.  Imagine what it would've been otherwise!  Great overall race.
