less than a week out - i have done essentially no training (seriously-see log) so i am going to use the race as training and not worry about time/placement.

hopefully this will kick start a good two week lead up to fat rabbit.

This is going to be my first tri.  Are there assigned spots in the transition area based on your race number or is it just first come/first server?  Also, what time does the transition area open up?  Didn't see that on the website.

thanks

I think that the transition area opens at 6:30AM for 8AM races and 5:30AM for 7AM races (can't remember which one we have at Wendys).  Maybe earlier, usually the website will state the time.

Based on your category you'll be assigned a rack.  If age group you may have more than one rack available.  It is first come first served on the assigned rack/s.

I got there late last year and had a hell of a time working with the official to make me a spot.  Get there early.  Get a good spot and do not use room you don't need.

At UltraFit the will be an offical in the T zone making sure everything get racked according to USAT rules.

After your done, go back 10 or 15 minutes before the race and fix all the stuf that later competitors will destroy, including moving your bike to a worse location.  .

The race day packet pick up is at 5:30 - most races this is the same time transition opens.

Don't know bout how they rack at this one.  The Ultra fit I did in may had racks assigned to age groups.  First come first serve on the assigned rack.  I got to transition about 10 minutes after it opened and claimed an end spot.

Remember to go check the website for the course changes.

They changed up the bike course this year. From miles 2-4 you going slightly uphill with some hills. It is only about 180-190 ft gain overall (~2% grade) but you will feel the burn.

They also changed up the run. It looks like it is going to be mostly on grass and trail this year. Not really looking forward to that, but you have to work with the hand that is delt.

I swam and rode the course this weekend. The water was chilly... but not too cold. I don't have a wetsuit and warmed up fine. The start is usually a wade start, so it will give you time to get used to the water. If you have any questions shoot me a PM

Yes Justin.  I had a good race Sunday at Deer Creek but have felt poor since.  I really hope I freshen up for Wendy's but will race no matter how I feel.  Last year I took the runs really slow due some stomach touble and hope to go decently faster this year if all goes well.

See you there.

Thanks for the feedback on the transition area.

I have another question.  My wife cannot make it to Alum Creek until after 7am, which I was told was the time they close down the access road to the beach.  Any suggestions on where she could park and walk over to the race area if she arrives after 7am?  We have a 4 week old she will be carting around as well.

thanks again.

There really isn't anywhere nearby to park and walk.  the closest is prob the info station half a mile east of the the beach entrance.  That makes it about a mile (or more) from the trans area.

The no driving in is to discourage people.  I see cars come in during events all the time.  She would be clear to enter without going against bikes up through 7:15.  After that she should be able to creep in anyway.

Woo Hoo! I just did a 1.25 mile open water swim at alum creek.  Water temp is fine - no wetsuit.

LEWIS CENTER ROAD IS CLOSED BETWEEN THE BEACH AND OLD STATE! According to the sign it will not be open race day so come in from Bale Kenyon or Africa road.

Noticed the race packet mention it, it gave detailed instructions on how to get to the park via Africa.  Which was nice of them.

Some how I got lucky and was able to swim at Alum Creek inbetween showers.  Water was surprising warm and calm (tasted like crap, blah), looks like they are getting ready to set up.

This race is strict in letting people out after the race too. Get ready to wait afterwards.

I was out there running the tri for the cure course   I'm sure I saw you in the water.  The water is very clear and I thought warm.

i went up there again today.  I noticed there is a housing development just a hair east of the park entrants - you could park curbside there.  It is about half mile to transition.

with no sun out I had the water to myself.  slightly different feeling than swimming the the tri mob.

I'm back home now and ready for a nice nap! What a race! I thought it was very organized and well ran.

This was my first open water swim triathlon. I felt super comfortable, and swam in the deeper end to avoid the crown, kicks, punches, etc.... I have no idea as far as my time right now, but I felt like I had a good swim. As far as the bike, and judging by my bike computer, I set a personal best on the bike as far as avg. pace. Again, by my computer, I averaged 18.7 on the bike. I would venture to say that a lot of people did well on the course as well. It was fast paced without a lot of difficult hills. I'm not sure about my run time, but it I already know it wasn't anything to write home about. Overall, I'm VERY pleased with my performance and will continue to improve. I can't wait for the next race!

I also got to meet Brue. I'm pretty sure he smoked past me on the bike and I saw him on the run as well (he was on his way in as I was on my way out). I hope everyone else who raced enjoyed it as much as I did.

Awesome to meet you Dan!!!

i was relaxed and the weather was great.  as usual minor things went wrong but overall i had a great race

they started it a bit late and i finished around 1:29:xx and headed home as fast as possible to sign my kids up for swim lessons.

i agree with dan this was a well organized race. they had an army of volunteers.

I am oblivious of surroundings while racing so I failed to spot dan on the ride and wouldda missed him on the run if he hadn't of said something - i saw no other BTers there and i know there were several

now i'm back from a 5 yr old bday party and enjoying the post race drug feeling

do i have some disorder that causes me to constantly recheck if results are up knowing full well that about 24 hours after a race is needed to get then posted

oh and while i'm rambling

things that went different this time at wendy's compared to my last time (i think '99) :

then gasping for air - now i actually train
then broken jaw from breastrokers - small waves made for less traffic
then scratched lost and foud goggles  - now new clear goggle
then 3 minute transitions with too much stuff - now in and out of trans fast with no clutter
then flat tire w/ no repair kit 4 miles or so to go (i ran the remainder) - now flying past people in the waves ahead of me
then oversized hand me down road bike - now anew TT bike finally adjusted about right
then hand me down running shoes - now racing flats with yanks

would you believe me if i said i had a better time this year?
