Pre-race routine:

Got there early, got signed up, i decided to do this race the night before at around 1:30, and had to leave about two hours after that in order to make it there.

Good times!

Saw brue, jun, kurt, and some others.
Event warmup:

Got my wetsuit on for the first time in the last year and went out for a short 5 min swim to get things moving around, and then talked to the people i knew there.
Swim
  • 10m 10s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 10s / 100 yards
Comments:

I say bad on the drafting as there was no one in front of my to follow from my wave.

Had a great swim for me, went out hard and just tried to hold on, came out of the water a few sec up on 2nd place from my way and having passed about 10 or so people from the wave in front of me.

Somewhere around 300m in a kid from my wave moved past me, but i caught him and repassed around 550 through and held on for the rest of the swim.

What would you do differently?:

swim in my wetsuit before the race day next time.
Transition 1
  • 00m 43s
Comments:

one of the faster transitions for the day, not wildly fast for me,
Bike
  • 33m 43s
  • 13 miles
  • 23.13 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike felt good, hard but never really pushing it. was FLYING by people the entire time, and by the end of the bike had caught most of the wave in front of me to start:-)
What would you do differently?:

if it were not this week, actually ride it HARD
Transition 2
  • 00m 29s
Comments:

back where it should have been, fastest T2
Run
  • 20m 24s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

was hot out there, but made it through ok, run was solid, passed a LOT of people and only got passed once by someone that started 5 min ahead of me:-)
Post race
Warm down:

went for a short jog.

Event comments:

I used this race as the start of my taper for a half ironman next weekend so never planned on killing the bike or run, went well and was smooth and controled the whole time, never felt like i had to dig deep to hold on.

good day!

Congrats David,

Some friends of mine did the race. I saw them yesterday and I described you and they said WOW you were really moving when they saw you on the bike...I think it was on the bike.

Have a great day. Enjoy your taper.

Chris
