Total Time = 1h 55m 9s
Overall Rank = 220/368
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 39/50
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5am walked the dog, had a bowl of oatmeal and some coffee before taking off at 5:45am.
Event warmup:

Not much, some stretching. Got in the water about 15 minutes before our wave got off and did a little warming up.
Swim
  • 18m 2s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 03s / 100 yards
Comments:

Was an average time for me but I wasn't too happy with it. This was my first time doing this and I'd heard the stories of swimming on top of people, getting kicked and hit, but stories don't do it justice. Had a few times where I got kicked and took in water - started gagging and coughing, had to roll over on my back and cough it out, then breast stroke to catch my breath.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure, maybe try to shoot for clearer water. Also when I started I was towards the back - I think I'd try to get more towards the front so I'm not swimming on top of people when I start.
Transition 1
  • 03m 28s
Comments:

Was a long run up a hill from the water. I didn't wear my shirt under my suit cuz it had gotten caught in the zipper a few days before when I was practicing - was wearing a form fitting tri-shirt too. Putting the shirt on took some time. I was happy with mounting the bike, though, and hit the clip on the first try.
What would you do differently?:

Wear my shirt under my suit - need to do that from now on to practice how I can keep it out of the zipper.
Bike
  • 44m 16s
  • 14 miles
  • 18.98 mile/hr
Comments:

Was a decent ride for me. Probably could have gone harder but didn't know how much gas I'd have left for the run. Was happy though that I only got passed by 3 guys.
What would you do differently?:

Go harder
Transition 2
  • 01m 14s
Comments:

I didn't pull my feet out of the shoes, just unclipped, stopped, jumped off and ran with the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, I thought I did ok on this.
Run
  • 48m 11s
  • 5 miles
  • 09m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

Was really slow coming off the bike, probably an 11 min pace trying to find my legs. Trail was nice to run on, only had issues with one hill that I had to walk up, but then again everyone was walking at that point.
What would you do differently?:

Try to pick up the pace sooner. Also I didn't run this exact course beforehand and wasn't wearing my gps so I had no idea how much further I had to go. I'd definitely do the course before the race so I have an idea of where the mile markers are.
Post race
Warm down:

Food and talk.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Think I need to do more strength training.

Hey....congrats on your first tri!  I hear AA is one tough son-of-a-gun, so I give you total props for taking it on as a rookie.  Nice work.
