Swim
Comments: This race was strictly a training race to get better OWS practice. The results are a little skewed because the chip timing system was faulty so they asked people to send their times in. You gotta expect some people to lie so take the results with a grain of sand. Nevertheless, I learned a lot during the swim today. My line to the first bouy was perfect. I had fairly clean water until the bouy when things crowded together, but they thinned out pretty soon afterwards. For the entire swim my line was nearly perfect. I sighted every five or six strokes and managed to swim straight unlike some of my other races. My only trouble was on the turnaround a little halfway through when I got disoriented and swam a little off line. My breathing was relaxed and under control for the first 25 minutes or so but then the water's temperature started to take a toll on me. The water was really cold and my legs started to tighten up. My kick really failed me the last 600 meters or so and I slowed down, but that is expected since my longest continous swim before this race was only 1640 yards. I think I had a solid race and learned a lot from this workout. Hopefully I can duplicate this type of swim in my Olypimic swim, but just go much faster. I had no sense of urgency in this race. What would you do differently?: Wear a wetsuit. Post race
Warm down: I came out of the water a little disoriented and it took me about five minutes of walking to feel better. I wanted to get back home so I cooled off with a hose and headed back for the car. Probably should have done a cool down swim, but some of the 2.4er's were still swimming and I didn't think I was allowed in the water. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of endurance training, didn't "race" this. Last updated: 2009-05-20 12:00 AM

Woke up at 500 and took a shower then had some oatmeal and water. We left by 545 because the race location was about 90 minutes from us.
Got in the water about an hour before my wave started. I swam around for about ten or so minutes. The water was pretty cold but I decided not to wear a wetsuit because this was a prep race for an Olympic triathlon in July and I won't swim in a wetsuit during than race. Big mistake.
