Swim
Comments: Personal Best swim pace today, So hey, I'm not going to sweat it, but if I had a complaint it would be that they need to do a better job of verifying swim times, I passed about 7 people in the pool, and had to get out of my swim tempo a lot because I was stuck behind slower swimmers. Other complaint might be that the pool was 84 degrees, I felt like I was swimming in a bathtub..oh and it was a joy getting out of that water and running outdoors into 30 degree wind chill!!!!! What would you do differently?: Turn in a faster swim time at registration and let others have to pass me. Transition 1
Bike
Comments: Today was as windy as it's ever been when I've been on a bike..30-35mph sustained winds. On the second pass through the uphill section, which was also into that hard wind, my bike got stuck on the big ring...uggggg....anyway, I was doing that part of the ride at 10-11 mph, in the big ring..and passing people, it was that windy... What would you do differently?: CLIPLESS Lost a good minute on my bike split because my #@$#@$@#$ left "clip" kept inverting itself... Transition 2
What would you do differently?: Not taken the extra 10 seconds to grab another drink of Gatorade, I think it contributed to my problem with the first mile of the run. Run
Comments: For the first mile I had a high stomach cramp, it kind of slowed me down, or I could have attacked more. Oh well. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. Post race
Warm down: Got blanket from the wife, Once I stopped going I got cool quick with the 30mph winds and 55 degree ambient. What limited your ability to perform faster: WIND But it was the same for everyone, Two somewhat uphill climbs into the wind, and especially on the second loop when my bike got stuck on the big ring...but hey, I was still passing people, I didn't get passed all day. I passed in the pool, the bike and on the run. Event comments: I was very impressed with this race, in a middle of nowhere town they had ample volunteers, including police to direct traffic. And they learned from a past mistake.. I heard a story that during the inaugural running a few years ago, the bike segment crossed a railroad track....about half the field got held up by a long freight train..they've since changed the course. I highly recommend this race to anyone. Good mix of beginners and experienced triathletes made it lots of fun. Last updated: 2004-11-09 12:00 AM
