Subject: Training Plan Question
In my forced recovery from Eagleman, I've been planning my training for the summer and early fall instead of actually working out. I plan on doing a century mid September and the Baltimore Marathon mid October.
I've been trying to make a hybrid of a century training program (10 week) and a marathon training program (16 week) to that end.
My question is this. If I alternate the long workout from each plan each week (ie. week 1 do long run, week 2 do long ride, week 3 long run, etc...) will I lose the training benefits from both plans and be a slow runner and a slow cyclist, or will the fitness I gain in one still be applicable to the other?
Thanks a bunch everybody.

Not for the most part.

Honestly, if you just raced a HIM, you shouldn't have much problem finishing a century this weekend.  I would largely follow a marathon training program and just try to ride when you have the opportunity.

Agreed.  If you have a decent cycling base, the hardest thing about an organized century is just being in the saddle that long.  Train for the marathon and get some long rides in here and there.  I finished my first century last year with no problem and 62 miles was the longest ride I had done prior to it.

I wasn't really worried about finishing the century so much as smoking the alumni we're doing it with (charity fund raising thing).
Thanks though, I'll focus on the run this summer, worry about getting appreciably faster on the bike in the fall.
