I personally hate running with anything other than shoes, shirt and shorts (and hat on sunny days), so I only bring fluids on runs greater than 17 or so miles (and I will also adjust these runs to earlier in the morning before the temp rises).  I wear a fuel belt but that is just my preference.

I think another important factor in hydration and running is how well hydrated you are before the run (and I don't mean drinking water an hour before).  If I have a long run planned for, say, Saturday morning, I will make sure i don't drink any alcohol for three or four days prior (easier said than done) and I will begin increasing my water intake.  This helps me quite a bit.

But, at the end of the day, running is a personal endeavor.....so do whatever you are comfortable with and works for you!

I take water on any run of more than an hour.  If there were more water available on any of my routes I might run without but there just aren't that many fountains around.

Funny how most people ignored the OP's original question, which was for people that actually use CB's during runs of that length.

Also, if it helped to knock off 33 seconds, the more power to him. Some people need more water than others and learning how to find that line can be of great help.

I wear one of the fanny pack style Camelbaks on a lot of my runs. If it's really warm or it's a long (for me) run I can also attach 2 Amphipod 8.5 oz bottles, which I fill with a sports drink, to the belt.

I haven't used the Camelbak in a race, but I have used my Amphipod belt in my last 2 olys. No matter how I try I cannot coordinate drinking from those paper cups while running. If I stop and walk I'm done. So I wear the Amphipod. (My Batbelt according to my SO)

I've found that having water along with me makes a huge difference in my performance.
