Subject: What to expect for first IN
I am doing Ironman Wisconsin. Unfortunately this will be my first tri and first Ironman. Work requirements made me miss 2 Oly tri's in my area.

What should I expect along the course as far as nutrition?

As far as my bike, should it be loaded with tubes CO2 powerbars/gels and the works for Hydration?

I have been practicing transitions and are getting them down enough to get the T1 going with the shoes attached to the bike. How is gear checked in and what is a Special Needs thing?

While starting with your shoes attached to your bike is a neat trick it is not allowed in an Ironman (unless you are a pro).

As to the other stuff in you post you might want to read my training log from 6/15 and 6/16.  I've written up my bag packing list and my race day plan.

Also look at the IMMoo website, it will list what will be on the course for nutrition.  However, race day nutrition is one of the most overlooked parts of an IM.  IMO most people DNF due to nutrition not lack of training.  Practice your fueling plan on long rides and runs, what is offered on the course may or may not work for you.

ETA:  If you plan to ask any training questions it would be helpful to use the BT training logs so people could get an idea of what you've been up to.

On the bike, you should expect water & Gatorade Endurance every 10 miles.  There will should also be Powergels & bananas available.  On the run, you get all that and more (coke, chicken broth, some other stuff) every mile.

Your bike should have whatever you need to change a flat.  Probably twice.  And then whatever you need for nutrition/hydration that isn't available on the course.  I recommend training at least with water & GE and availing yourself of the aid stations.  You can then carry your own gels/bars or "feed" bottle of nutrition if you like.  You really shouldn't need more than 2 bottles on your bike.

Forget about practicing transitions for an IM.  It's not necessary because it's not about speed.  Just know what you need and be efficient.

Special Needs is offered at the half-way point on each of the bike and the run.  You could have a "refill" of your personal nutrition.  Maybe some extra clothes for the run.  Or anything else you think would be useful.  I never used mine.
