Subject: Marathon/Triathlon Training
I am currently training for a Marathon in October, but also want to compete in a couple of Triathlons through the summer.  One Tri that I want to do is on a Sunday in August when my Marathon training schedule calls for a 32km long run.  If I compete in the Olympic Distance Tri, should that be sufficient (I figure the long run and Tri would each take me around 3 hours) or should I incorporate a long run later in the week?  Also, should I try to bike/swim between running days, or could I replace a short run with a longer bike (distance) or swim (time)?  Any suggestions are welcome.  Thanks!

I've been known to do a long run or ride later in the day foolowing a "B" or "C" event (or ride home).  It works well for me.  If you cut it down to say 25K and do it late, you should be OK, as long as you race the Oly at an appropriate intensity.  I'm assuming the marathon is your priority.  Seeing that the 32K long run is probably a key workout in your marathon build-up, I would not deviate too greatly.  Another possibility is to wait and do it Monday.  Either way, appropriate intensity on Sunday is key!  Don't leave it all on the tri course.  Remember what your priority is.

Good luck
