Comments: we were going around 12-16 mph the first 20 miles, and 15-19 the last 20. max speed was 35 or something. What would you do differently?: not have a cold? Post race
Warm down: stretched. ran around the block in my clogs after my husband started joking about doing a brick. no sure about being able to run a 1/2 marathon after a ride like that (the 1/2 im i'm looking at is a 56 mile ride w/ similar hills), but my legs felt surprisingly good afterwards. and of course - dairy queen! :) What limited your ability to perform faster: wind and a cold. Event comments: iron crotch was very low key. we had an easy time finding the registration area, but got lost on our way to the start of the 40+ mile route (each route had a different start point). glad we stuck with the 40 instead of the 60, since this cold is still hanging on. will hopefully do the 60 next year. chatted with some other bike geeks along the route, which was nice. passed a pack of tri-ers (at least, they looked like it - a cervelo, a quintana roo, and a friend on a bianchi). they weren't very chatty even though we were leap frogging each other. we lost them at the dairy queen. anyway, it was a good time. really nice to ride w/my husband w/o either of us having to pull the kids in the burley! we (bill, aka mr. autumn, aka 1speed) woke up around 6am. had some oatmeal and coffee. dressed in tights and wool jerseys (sunny day, but cold & windy). loaded the bikes and headed to wisconsin. grandma stayed at our place with our two girls, so this ride was as close to a date as we've had in a while!
hopping up and down to stay warm. a little stretching.
