I just did my first tri and learned that I can't swim in open water at all. Does anyone know of any Open Water Swim clinics or training in the Greater Hartford or Great Springfield area?
I live in Windsor Locks and work in Holyoke, so if there is anything in between that, it would be great.

I can't help you out with any recommendations but wanted to say congrats on your first tri!  You will never forget your first!     My biggest advise would be to get as many OWS sessions as you can.  You will become more comfortable with practice!

Tri out crystal lake in Ellington. They will be having a sprint in July, also you can swim any time at the beach, pay 5 bucks and you can swim out towards the beach buoy's, its good training..
I swim off the boat launch sometimes but I always make sure my buddy follows me in his Kayak due to boat traffic.

I looked into doing the Ellington Tri, also because its the perfect swim distance too - only 1/4 mile instead of 1/2. Unfortunately, its on the same day as my husband's birthday and he wants to go to a concert on his birthday. I will have to look into going there just to get some swim practice though.

Thanks.

i know its a little out of the way, (i live in Enfield so we'd have about the same drive), but Lake T in Marlborough is a good spot. its about 25 minutes from Enfield. down route 2 a little past Glastonbury.

Thanks everyone for your input. I just managed to convince my trainer to give me some OWS lessons. May be we can change it up a bit and try both Crystal Lake and Lake T.

check out windingtrails.com.  it's in farmington.. they have a womens sprint tri in September.  (will be my first!)  but every tuesday night they have "mini tris"  .. everything is half the distance. Everyone that does these says they are GREAT! look into it b/c the run on tuesdays may be a trail run.. but it's a lake to swim in.  i too am looking for clinics or any training help, nutrition advice...so, if you know of anything in these areas.. let me know!!
