Subject: RE: Cross Country Ski... Anyone Do it?cross-country skiing is so much fun! I learned how when I was about 6 or 7 (my whole family used to go out in the trails around our house all winter long ). Like other posters have said, the basic technique isn't too hard to master. I think probably the hardest thing for a complete novice to learn is how to alternate poles and skis. You will also want to practice going up steep hills -- the fastest way to climb up hills is to go up in a herringbone pattern (put the back ends of the skis so that they are almost touching, and climb up the hill that way -- but if the back ends overlap each other, you will trip yourself! ), but you can also sidestep up. I don't know if you downhill ski or not, but you will want to remember that the bindings of cross-country ski boots don't automatically release like downhill ski boots do, so you need to take a little more care when you fall so you don't sprain an ankle. |
