Subject: Nutrition in heat

I have a sprint Sunday.  I know it's not a long race but it will be in the 90s when the race starts.
Tuesday night I did a brick, 20 mile ride and 2.5 mile run.  I had a gu with water about 10 minutes before the ride and drank about 22 oz Gatorade while on the bike because it was so CRAZY hot I was very thrsty and felt I needed the hydration.  As you can imagine I was sloshy and nauseas on the run.  I ended up with cramps and was miserable, walking 30-40% of the 2.5 miles.

My ride on Sunday is 12 miles so it is shorter.  I am new to racing and have yet to get my nutrition dialed in especially with it getting hotter.  Any suggestions to help me get through the heat without tanking my run?

22oz of fluid on a 20 mile ride does not seem like too much to me.  You could try going with just water (or more diluted Gatorade) as that should digest easier (the heat and the hard effort will both make it harder to do this than 'normal').  The other thing is that in the heat you will have to slow down to keep going as long.  How much is very individual--depends on how well you are adapted to that kind of weather, general fitness level, etc.

Although this thread is talking about IM and HIM it talks about the bike-run bonk you are experiencing. Might be some help in there.
