Subject: RE: Weakest Phase...Puddle Duck - 2009-06-26 5:04 PM Hi..
I decided about a month ago to compete in "my first tri" ... it's a "Sprint" event being held on July 5th of this year!!
I'm quite comfortable swimming and running... and can do more than the necessary distances in what I think are 'ok' times. I bike commute virtually everywhere, but it is definitely my weakest phase..
Most posts I've read it seems swimming or running are the more common weak phases... just wondering if anyone else struggles with the cycling... or what they've done to improve that phase?
Thanks..
When I first started training for tri's I had several years of swimming under my belt (not fast, but I could do it, so it didn't intimidate me ) and lots of running, but cycling was totally new. For the first 5 months or so I was frustrated by it and just didn't get the cycling hype. But, then I started riding longer, in some good weather, did a tri that had a 28 mile bike leg, and had a BLAST! Since then I have learned to like it more and more and really enjoy the cycling leg, probably the most, of the three. You will see an acronym here on BT: T.I.T.S = Time in the Saddle. The only way to get better and get through the mental block to like it is to spend more time riding. Try to find someone to ride with, some pretty rides, attend an organized charity bike ride, etc. and hopefully it becomes more fun for you. But truly to improve in cycling, you need to cycle more! |
