Subject: Fluid bike trainer - newbie question
Ok, I just got a new fluid bike trainer for my birthday and wonder why I need to replace the rear axle if my current axle fits the trainer.  If this is recommended, do I have to switch them each time I use the trainer?  Thanks!

Trainers tend to beat up skewers over time so it's best to swap it.

Road skewers tend to be light and they don't need all that much beef on the ends, just enough to keep the wheel on the bike and keep the post secure.
Trainer skewers tend to be heavier and the ends are beefed up to take the beating they're going to get on the trainer because that's where the bike attaches.

The trainer should have come with a skewer. If not just search out trainer skewer and you can pick one up for a couple bucks.

It's best to switch it, the plastic skewer will get chewed up pretty quick if you don't switch it out. Only takes a few seconds.
