Total Time = 1h 56m 33s
Overall Rank = 905/1436
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 58/89
Pre-race routine:

Up at 5:00 and ate toast w/PB & honey. Get gear together and head to over to race site at 6:30. Got body marked and headed to set up transition.
Event warmup:

Standing around until 9:05 in my wetsuit cheering for those that went off in the earlier waves...
Swim
  • 21m 25s
  • 984 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

Waiting to get into the water one of the volunteers comments that "the current is pretty stong today. It's going to be tough getting to the turn around but you should make it up on the way back." Great.... I was much more comfortable with all the contact from the other swimmers around me. Kept reminding myself to relax and breath. Got out of the water ready for the rest of the race.
What would you do differently?:

More OWS focusing on sighting. Still spending too much time zig-zagging.
Transition 1
  • 05m 50s
Comments:

What did I do for 5:50? I don't remember sitting down to have a cup of coffee or a lite lunch...
What would you do differently?:

Figure out how to get the wetsuit off. Practice transitions.
Bike
  • 53m 12s
  • 14.91 miles
  • 16.82 mile/hr
Comments:

First time in a tri I have felt good in a race getting on the bike. By the time I got on the couse there was a lot of traffic (other riders). I found a comfortable pace and stuck with it. Pushed a little harder on the second lap once I had some water/cliff blocks and some of the traffic cleared from the earlier waves.
What would you do differently?:

Just keep training so I can push harder.
Transition 2
  • 03m 9s
Comments:

I missed my bike rack again and went in the wrong lane. Duh.
What would you do differently?:

Remember where my bike rack was.... Practice transitions at home.
Run
  • 32m 54s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt pretty good coming off the bike although the temps were climbing a little bit. Drank some water and pour the rest over my head at 1 and two miles.
What would you do differently?:

Keep training to increase speed and endurance.
Post race
Warm down:

Got some water and walked around with friends & family.

Event comments:

This has to be the best race experience I have had in years! What a difference a year makes! The additional race experience and training really helped in the swim and carried through for the rest of the race. My goal was to break 2:00 and I came in at 1:56:33, 13 minutes + faster than last year. I finished tired but not exhausted knowing I did my best for where I am in my training right now. Sharing the experience with extended family made it even better. Still lots of room for improvement but that's what keeps me coming back.

Way to go Art! Where do you swim? Is the water temp really 93? It's amazing how a comfortable swim can really set the tone for the rest of the race. It's really great to see such progress from year to year. Congrats on a very nice race!
